Hi, new staffy owner looking for help
Hi all, here is a bit about my story,
We recently got a new dog from a friend of a friend, he was bought round to our house and we chatted with the previous owner and took the dog for a walk and all seems great, hes great with kids and other dogs, dosent bark at the door just a very well behaved dog.
Then today we have someone tell us oh btw your dog has been reported to the RSPCA and the police because he is a banned dog, a pitbull, and will be taken away...
I have spoke to the previous owner and the vets he was last registered to and micro chipped at and they have both told me he is pure staff. Im not too sure what to do or expect to happen about this and was just after some advise on what i should do.
Here are a few pics of Reggie, any help and advise would be great.
Thanks in advance

Re: Hi, new staffy owner looking for help
Hi and welcome, I think he is a staffy x cross to be honest.
I am afraid with the law we have (I take it your from England) yes, a dog classed as a type can be taken away, but if he is friendly and well bought up there are many more routes that they have to go down first.
Why would someone report him?

Re: Hi, new staffy owner looking for help
Just keep things normal if that makes sense, try not to worry, get him registered at the vets, jabs etc and if he is well behaved then there is no point to worry.
My Moo could be classed as a type but she is fab with people/other dogs so I have no need to worry.
But yes, with the daft law we have a dog deemed a type could be removed. But I do believe that is an extreme Xx

Hi and welcome to he forum from Rocky and me.
I think Janey has already explained the situation very well. If you dog is well behaved and well trained you have nothing to worry about. Dont listen to the gossips.

Re: Hi, new staffy owner looking for help
Hi & welcome.
He looks like he's a staffy cross. I would imagine that people think he's a pit because of his red nose? But the nose colour will be from his coat colour which looks, from the pics, to be liver. All liver coloured dogs have red/brown noses!
As already said, make sure that he's under control, friendly & well behaved & you shouldn't have any problems.
Has he been castrated? If not, you might want to consider it. That's going to make a lot of people on this forum gasp in surprise because I don't normally advise castration! But if he's neutered and you do get asked about him by the police then it shows that you are being 'responsible' (in their eyes) and will go in your favour.
Otherwise, just tell eveybody that he's a liver staffy cross & enjoy him!

Hello, what a lovely dog, its a crying shame that people condemn so easily, as the others say, try not to worry, there are sooo many staffy cross dogs out there, as long as his behaviour is good there shouldn't be too many problems,

Re: Hi, new staffy owner looking for help
I think in a lot of ignorant people's eyes, he simply looks like a Pitbull due to the colour and nose and whatever. If he's well-behaved, you don't have everything to worry about, I shouldn't think, since even people who do have Pitbulls there can be exceptions made if you adhere to their strict and stupid regulations. It must be really worrying for you, but try not to worry, I think it'll be OK
By the way, gorgeous dog, thanks for the pics, brilliant colour.

Hi and welcome from Kia and me,
Reggie dose look like a SBT X but with what i couldn't say, but to be honest it dosnt matter anyway as he is a stunning looking boy
i think that what all the others say is very good advice and as long as he is well behaved and you are a responsible owner, then you should just carry on as normal and dont worry about what other small minded gossips say
and keep your chin up

Hi and welcome.
No good advice to offer as I live in the US. Good luck though, it sounds like it will be OK.

Re: Hi, new staffy owner looking for help
Often red Staffies are taken as Pit Bulls, he looks full Staffy to me.
If the police do demand him DO NOT SIGN HIM OVER if you do they will pts him, once signed over he can't be rehomed.
As soon as you can contact Deed No Breed http://www.deednotbreed.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57&Itemid=50 they have got a lot of dogs back home again, they will give you all the support you need and help you through it all.
Make sure your dog is well trained and obedient, teach him through place as much as you can, clicker training is really good with Staffies who also love agility, it helps get rid of their energy.
Have him registered with a vet, microchipped and neutered, I don't believe in neutering every dog but in cases like this I would say neuter to keep my dog safe.
Good luck.
