Grinding teeth?
Rio tends to grind his teeth just before going to sleep or sometimes during. Now everything i've googled about it mentions that he could be in pain whether abdominal or something else. He is absolutely fine in himself and nothing has changed. I was thinking it's similar to how people can grind their teeth at night sometimes, i just wouldn't want him to damage his teeth because of it. Thoughts? Any one else's staffy do this?

Re: Grinding teeth?
Unusual...ive not heard of this before! I found this which may be of some help...
When a dog grinds his teeth it is called "bruxism". Bruxism is usually a sign of some type of pain.
A dog will sometimes grind their teeth because of abdominal pain. It can often be hard to figure out why there is pain there.
Another possible reason for tooth grinding is pain in the mouth. There are a number of things that can cause dental issues. Sometimes they are difficult to find unless the dog is under anesthetic. Sometimes dental issues even need dental xrays in order to be determined.
It's also possible that he has a TMJ problem which is pain the jaw.
If this was my patient I would probably be trying her on some medication to help with stomach upset such as famotidine.
If that didn't work then I would likely try a pain reliever to see if that helps. If the pain reliever did help then I may consider doing a good dental exam under an anesthetic.
Hope this helps....im sure someone else will be along soon enough to give some advice! keep us posted!

Re: Grinding teeth?
How bad is it? Theia does it and so did Floyd. It's more of a jaw tensing than a full grind but it is when she settles down for the night.

Re: Grinding teeth?
Biscuit did this every night after dinner before I switched her food to grain free! Think her tummy was uncomfortable! She doesn't do it at all now!

Re: Grinding teeth?
He literally does it a couple times only ever before sleep and then stops and doesn't do it again.
His bowels are normal, i've looked at his mouth and everything's fine, his demeanour doesn't change which it does when something bother's him. He's getting a vet MOT done in the next month and started on a new diet soon so maybe that'll help. It's just odd :/

Re: Grinding teeth?
Luna does the same thing since she was 3 months old. She’ll get comfy, close her eyes do a little teeth grind and goes to sleep I think it’s just a comfort thing as I’ve checked her jaw and teeth many times and they are all fine, she does it the most if she’ll lie down on my chest and she’ll just close her eyes and just grind her teeth once and fall asleep..
