Lunging at people
Hello everyone, so Harley is doing brilliantly these past few weeks. His walking on the lead has greatly improved and he walkes to heel most of the time the only thing I'm finding is when someone walkes towards us or in front Harley pulls and some times goes on his back legs and hops like a kangaroo lol he also lunges at people and I get the vicious staffy comments, when all he wants to do is lick them to death. How did you guys handle this? And does it calm as they get older. Thanks

Re: Lunging at people
Really just comes with training and socialization. Try having him sit before greeting people and find people that are okay with helping you train him.

Yup totally agree with the above, no human interaction until all 4 paws are firmly on the floor (this may require some human training) and then as much fuss as needed as long as all 4 paws are floored

Re: Lunging at people
What do you use as far as lead, collar or harness do you use?
We have ours on a non pull harness and a half check collar with a 6ft lead. When she pulls it's easy to restrain with the harness and we give the correction through the collar.
Pete.

Thank you all for the replies, pete I have him on a collar and normal lead at the moment although I do have a double end lead that I could use for extra control with his ezy dog harness. I will give it ago

Re: Lunging at people
I'm in the process of this exact problem myself... my boy is 2 1/2 and still wants to say hello to everyone by jumping up. I'm having him sit and watch me every time someone goes by whether it be on a bike or a jogger etc. Also everyone in the household will turn their backs on him when we walk through the door until he's on all 4 paws, then we say hello.
