Gross Post Sorry ! Staffie Farts
Im just wondering if anyone knows why Staffies farts are so bad, I have never known a dog like them, they make me look an amature, and I have been known to clear a room or two in my time. My old staffie was the same, and he would go to the vets every 3 or 4 months to have his anal gland sqeezed, the vet offered to show me how to do it, but I was more than happy to pay £7 a go to have it done by a profesional
I have never fed a dog what I would consider junk food to them, the only scraps they get is leftover meat from a roast, the occaisional good quality sausage and, I will sometimes give them boiled rice (with chicken) and the bone off of a lamb joint always goes down well.
So why the smelly farts ?
Is there a reason for this, we had Jack Russells and Fox Terriers as a kid and I dont remember them being as bad as our Staffs.
Would a, Raw diet make a difference ?
My friend says that some dry food (which is what I feed) has ash in it, could this be a factor, in my dogs flatulence ?
Sorry again for the gross post, just interested in your thoughts on this

Yup diet will make all the difference. You might need to try some variants that suit but I will agree that when they fart bad... It's bad

It's all about diet. We don't give our pup any human food. She only has her kibble and natural dried treats and doesn't fart never mind stink.
Our old boy used to get table scraps and cheap food mixed with his kibble and stank the place out!

Re: Gross Post Sorry ! Staffie Farts
Please don't give cooked bones. The bone off a lamb joint that been cooked is much more liable to splinter than raw bones.
I agree it's down to diet mostly, although some dogs do seem more prone than others. I feed raw and by and large my guys are pretty good fart wise. Millie can be quite noxious but I can always see a dietary link. Rawhide chews set her off summat awful!
Maybe try cutting out everything except the basic dog food diet for a couple of weeks and see if that makes a difference. If it does, then add back any treats one at a time and see if you can spot the offender.
