Biting while on the lead
Harley is 7 months now and recently he has been biting the lead and my trousers leg on walks when he doesnt get to go where he wants. He also zig zags when walking which is frustrating and when corrected to the side he chews the lead again and my legs. Im teaching him to walk nice by stopping everytime he pulls and hes much improved but walking backwards he gets frustrated and nips me aswell. Any advice would be brilliant thanks.

Re: Biting while on the lead
Have you tried the turn around method of walking him?
If he's dead set on biting the lead & your trousers you could try smearing something yucky on them - Vicks or something hot?

Re: Biting while on the lead
Go and buy a chain lead. Every time he bites the lead, stop and change to the chain. It worked great for us. As far as nipping at your trousers, maybe try distracting with treats.

Re: Biting while on the lead
Thank you for the advice Pete I will invest in a chain lead see how it goes. Gillybrent I use the stop method when he pulls but when he pulls really hard I turn around and walk the other way for a few paces and this is when he crosses infront of me and nips me. Maybe out of frustration ?

Does he know the "leave" command? You could ask him to leave and then stop walking, offer an alternate command (sit, for example) and then start walking again. Chain lead could also be useful!

Have you taught the watch me command? Suki often wants to go a different route. We tell her watch me and hold a treat in our closed hand until she is going the direction we want her to take. Works well with all types of distractions as well

Re: Biting while on the lead
I taught Lexi 'this side' for when she is on a lead (I hold the loop in my left hand and the lead pulled across my body then holding it again in my right hand so that she is not able to cross me. I have control) and when she is off lead 'this way'. Could try that? She is a dream on walks. Just a nightmare at home haha x
