How much does it cost to feed raw?
Sorry , if that question was asked already. We are thinking of going raw. How much does it cost per month?

Re: How much does it cost to feed raw?
I did some calculations before we switched and the answer was less expensive than a good quality kibble. Our monthly bill fluctuates depending on how many dogs we have and what other bits and pieces I order. Very roughly, though, for 2 biggish dogs (one's about 22kg and the other is about 27kg, both quite active), the cost is around £60-70 a month, including delivery of about £7. That's from Landywoods. That includes their daily ration of meat or fish, bones and some raw treats.

As above cheaper than a good quality kibble, I spend £60-£70 every 12-14 weeks with DAF (free delivery over £50) which normally includes a couple of bags of gravy bone biscuits for treats.
As far as the order goes there are cheaper options but Ive been trialling some of the different options, venison, pheasant etc I also top up a bit with free bones from the butcher (I say free but I feel obliged to stock up on maple or oak smoked bacon for myself when I'm there)

Re: How much does it cost to feed raw?
We order from DAF and order atleast £50 a time, so that we get free delivery too. I will then buy fresh fish from the supermarket and we get some free bits of pork and bones etc. from the butchers every now and again.
In total I think we spend about £60-£70 every 2 and a half months. So I would say it works out at just under £1 per day. Which when considering that he is eating pure meat, bone and offal, it is even better than some good quality kibbles which contain mainly grain and vegetables for the same price or more!
It does also depend on how much your dog eats as well so it can be cheaper than that.

I really would like to feed raw but have no clue about what to get and where from, also ratios of meat offal and fish. Also bones and such like. The frozen stuff ie natures menu is already prepared is this sufficient on its own or not? xx

Re: How much does it cost to feed raw?
I think a few people on here feed Natures Menu pre prepared stuff with no problems Inez! It just may work out a bit more expensive and contains extras like veg and rice that aren't necessarily needed in the diet.
Prepping yourself is pretty easy once you do it a couple of times We order from DAF and they say all the minces come at the right offal:bone:meat ratios.
We just go by he has his evening mince pack which is sorted in ratios and then gets an extra all meaty bit, and an extra really boney bit which cancels each other out to make the correct ratio? Fish we give every day but I don't think you need to
The only down side is how stinky the DAF stuff is and it can get messy...well I end up making a mess

Re: How much does it cost to feed raw?
Natures Menu might be a good way to get started and you'll probably then find once you're happy with it that it's worth looking at DAF or Landywoods - I'm sure both would work out cheaper.
but yes, it's not the nicest stuff to handle - we call them bloody bags for a reason - but to be honest I find the smell less offensive than tinned animal food. Except for straight tripe which is evil!
