9month old bitch acting strangely
Hi all,
Please can someone advise me?
Lexi is 9 months old and very obedient.
She is house trained - however the past two days after her 1st meal she has done a wee in doors? Yesterday was on the floor and was a huge wee.
Today she walked in bold as brass and squatted on her bed then ran away and hid as if she knew it was naughty.
I don't smack Lexi just say "no, naughty".
Also the past couple of days she has been whining and barking for attention in the house and not sleeping as much as she usually does during the day.
She is walked twice a day for 2 hours.
I wondered if anyone knew if these were signs of her going I to hear as she hasn't had her 1st season yet but she is not swollen. Help!!!

Re: 9month old bitch acting strangely
Sorry twice a day for an hour a time so 2 hours daily exercise total. Also forgot to mention I have started giving her breakfast in a 2ltr bottle (like a home made long) could it just be that she is too distracted and leaving it too late? X

Does the dog indicate she needs the loo? Can you explain how you are feeding her please.

Re: 9month old bitch acting strangely
Usually she does she will come in and jump playfully towards the door and I say "do you need to be clean?" And she will bark.
Usually she is fed in her bowl but the last two days she has had her food in an empty bottle which is gets the lid off and rolls around u till she gets all the good out x

If it was me id continue to feed out of the bowl feed her at regular intervals morning and night. Sounds like shes testing to see what she can get away with. When she wees any place ignore it and wash the area with soap powder and water breaks down the enzymes and stops her weeing there repeatedly i would also take her out between half an hour to an hour after her feed.

That is what I wash any accidents with.
Recently (the past week) she has been seeing a lot tiny little amounts each time and whining and whimpering at the tv and at me to play which she never does x

Perhaps a trip to the vet for the slight weeing incidents . Perhaps you could have a set playtime for her during the day and make it the same time each day staffys crave human attention they are very much people oriented dogs.

Re: 9month old bitch acting strangely
See we had a trainer in when she was 3 or 4 months old as she was a real barker (she still is to be honest) but he advised us not to give her a routine as she would bark if it was broken. She does have allocated play times but not at set times. We just get her fetch ball play for 20 min or so (usually between walks) and do some trick and treat and she is so well behaved just this past week she has been barking in at me the telly her tail lol everything. I will go back to Bowls and see if that helps. ;-) thanks x

Re: 9month old bitch acting strangely
Routines important for a puppy , if at any time shes barking for no reason a firm no should help when the barking stops reward her with a pat and plenty of encouragement.

She has bed time routine but nothing stops her barking. I've got used to it now she is just a very vocal dog. It's not aggressive it's not separation issues it's just that she loves a bark lol x

Re: 9month old bitch acting strangely
Have never had a girly but does sound as if she may be coming into season. Especially if she is clingy, I would just continue with the routine

Re: 9month old bitch acting strangely
Maybe a trip to the vet to rule out a urinary tract infection as well. They are very common in females and can cause them to pee inappropriately due to discomfort and irritation.

Re: 9month old bitch acting strangely
Its a routine that some dogs will hit at that time of the development. my girl did exacly the same, pead everywhere after months of waiting at the door. back to basics im afraid but it should only take a couple of weeks. she also left me a couple of dog logs every now and them for good measure lil madam

Re: 9month old bitch acting strangely
Well I didn't give her a bottle to eat from yesterday and today and she has told me she wants to go out but I will still keep an eye. Hahah dog log I love that. The barking is driving me mad the most. It usually starts if there is a dog on tv then when that goes off she stares at me and barks and barks and barks and I ignore it but it's getting bloody hard x
