Chav dogs?
An interesting read on the BBC website:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-30902078
Despite living in Essex (innit), we couldn't be further from from chav if we tried!

Re: Chav dogs?
As a Staff owner the report doesn't tell me anything I didn't already know but it might help with the general impression of what a Staffy really is like. It's interesting to read that 20 years ago it was the Doberman that was being vilified which I remember well. One of my brothers friends had one and it was a soppy thing but he would put big collars on it to make it look more ferocious.
Some 30 years ago when I had my first Staff they were certainly not as popular. I can remember leaving her outside the post office and being complimented on her wonderful temperament and being asked what sort of dog she was.
The statements that the kennel club person says at the end of the article is just about spot on in my opinion. We all know what wonderful family members Staffs are
As for gang members turning up with Sausage dogs.... Well that just made me laugh

Re: Chav dogs?
It's the Lurcher that's becoming the chav dog in our area. Usually accompanied by a terrier or two and kids in trackies and wellies! I often see them at night as they take them 'hunting' with those really powerful lamps.
It worries me that it's only a matter of time before some little dog is attacked when it's mistaken as 'prey'.

That's what I thought. Finally, at least one article in the press that's talking about the real staffie, the 99% that are what we know them to be, the most loyal, friendly and drop dead gorgeous dogs in the world.

Re the last bit: Soon after I got Bo a mate came round to have a look at him. This guy knows nothing about dogs and didn't even know what a Staffie looked like, but what he said made me laugh. He said, "He's great, he looks like a proper dog." When I asked what he meant he said, "You know, a real dog. You get these dogs that look like other things - sheep, rats, gerbils, carpets - but he looks how a dog should."

I like your friend's way of thinking! Our staffs are definitely proper dogs!

Re: Chav dogs?
Thought it was a well balance article but what made me laugh was that it said some people got a staff to guard their homes. In my experience
the only people coming to my home that should be afraid are those that
don't like a good licking all over

Same here Lizzie, my two are are the same. everone is the long lost friend they havent met yet...who may also have a treat in the pocket.! Laska is a right tart with anyone doing the wigglebum around there legs. I've been bitten once and that was by a jrt who missed my tackle by inches, even so i was a kid and probably missed a million and one "stay away" postures. I've also lost count of the staffies I've stroked while out on a walk with not one jot of agression.

In my area its a case of spot the chav they use japanese akitas and with good owners they have an excellent temprement and many other qualities. I showed a said chav up one day as he tried to intimidate me with the dog and the dog done the opposite his face it was priceless.
