Eating His Bedding Empty Eating His Bedding

First off, I wasnt sure where this should be...is it behaviour, health, tried and tested...i dunno. If the admin people would move this if it isn't appropriate here that would be great!

Anyway...

So Blue is now just over 2 years old and hes fairly well behaved...but hes REALLY food oriented and super greedy to boot.

If hes bored/hungry he darts for anything he deems edible. from paper to dropped food to socks! hes such a nightmare sometimes. Were working on the drop command and hes getting there slowly.

The real problem is when hes in his crate overnight he started ripping up his bedding and eating it! this is not just annoying and gross but potentially dangerous.

The latest episode today has meant he has been throwing up chunks of fleece blanket all day and cant keep his food down. Were a little worried that he might not have got it all up so hes booked into the vets for a checkup in the morning (weds).

Any tips on preventing him eating everything he gets his paws on would be greatly appreciated(particularly crate bedding) !

Cheers

Sounds like he isnt tired out enough at night have some playtime just before bed or alternatively a longer walk so he sleeps right through , perhaps a toy such as a puppy kong in his crate to distract him or perhaps a rope toy

Hello! First question, what brand of food are you feeding him? Smile

He chews those black kongs to bits in under an hour and rope toys even less time haha.

your probably right about needing a walk right before bed though.

He is eating a mix of homemade food with some Adlington's salmon and rice kibbles which the vet recommended when he got super hyper after he was neutered. Occasionally he gets Harrington's when Tesco is the only place open...that's rare though.

heres a link for dry dog food other forum users use http://staffy-bull-terrier.com/dry_food im sure someone alternatively will be along to recommend a food they use. i will say dont change your dogs food too often it upsets their stomach. if you have plans on changing the food do it gradually.
