People's attitude to Staffy's!!!
I am so pleased I have found this part of the forum as something has been really annoying me since we got Cooper. Basically people's attitude to Staffy's!!!
When I take Cooper out for a walk my 6 year old daughter normally comes with me (she's like my shadow). People see us coming towards them and immediately decide that it's a dangerous dog and cross over the road. As soon as we have passed they then cross back over again, it really does my head in!!!
I realise that there are owners out there who are very irresponsible and these dogs are seen to young teens as an "image" dog but seriously people need to stop having this attitude about these amazing loving dogs!
I'm just wondering if anyone else notices this when they take their dog out for a walk. Honestly sometimes I really feel like saying something to them but why should I bother?
The only thing Cooper would be guilty of is licking someone to the point of them being soaking wet!! It just gets on my nerves that people don't take the time to see that these dogs are the most loving and wonderful animals to have as part of the family.
Rant Over!!

Re: People's attitude to Staffy's!!!
Paul, you are not alone. I've had people hide behind walls and wheely bins before now, they have even stood dead still and hid their face behind a news paper till Flo has gone passed. Rather than get annoyed i snigger in the knowledge that the most harmful thing my Flo will do is lick ya
Now, because my Flo is deaf we have a Hi-vis jacket for her that clearly says deaf and all we get then is "Aww what a sweet dog". You really couldn't make it up, it's as though the Hi-vis suddenly makes her less dangerous in their minds

Starting to get people judging Harley recently he's nearly 6 months and the cute puppy dog comments have stopped, one women was coming towards us with her golden retriever and stopped dead and said keep that the other side of the path I was like what!! He's clearly typical staffy and adores people that's why he's chocking his self pulling towards you silly women not because he wants to eat you lol Anyway all the good comment I get about his good behaviour and how good he is with other dogs out way the silly comments. I love him and wouldn't change him for the world those silly people don't realise what staffy loving there missing out on

I think a majority of this forum has come across this problem! Its their own loss for not educating themselves instead of listening to the media to make their own minds up. Just laugh it off....they wernt worth staffy licks anyway!

Re: People's attitude to Staffy's!!!
I was waiting in the vets one time and a man was in with his staffy,, he was trying on muzzles on him to gte him used to them,, I was asking him if his dog maybe didnt get on with other dogs or something,, and the upshot was,, no,, his dog was lovely and still only young, but he was worried that other people would be scared of him so was going to muzzle him when walking! I thought that was sad,, and wrong. Then you get people who look at you and your dog like you are monsters if it is muzzled, when in my opinion if someone has their dog muzzled its probably due to good reason and they are being a responsible owner to make sure it cant harm another dog. You cant win really.

Sadly this does seem to be a popular misconception that all Staffies are to be feared, of course we all know the truth in that they are such loving gentle dogs. Their loss I say and they are not deserving of your time when thinking about them.

Re: People's attitude to Staffy's!!!
I get that kind of nonsense all the time and it's really starting to wear me down Toby is only 7 months old and my first staffy. When he was a little pup people would go out of their way to pet him. from he was about 4 months old I've had people picking up their dogs and crossing roads. Most of the time when this happens Toby is on his lead and hasn't even noticed their prissy pouches.
It bothers me so much because I know this isn't just to do with Toby, this is a judgement on my appearance also. I'm not a Chav, in fact I'm qualified up to a masters level as a psychologist and Counsellor specializing in children's therapy, but when people see a fat girl in jeans and a t-shirt they automatically think I'm a scumbag. people's judgements are so infuriating at times

Hi ya Ren, welcome to the Forum
I don't think there is anyone on the forum that hasn't had a negative comment or action
My Flo is a classic example of how stupid prejudice is. If I walk her without her Hi vis "Deaf" jacket on I see people avoiding us or picking up their precious pooch but when she wears it I would be seriously wealthy from the amount of "Isn't she cute & Aww's" that I hear.
When you get a min, pop along to the link below and say Hi to everyone:-

I get a few sideways glances too, on the very rare occasions I go to the nearest town (bald bodybuilder with gold teeth, tattoos and a Staffie - on the upside I don't own any white jogging pants) but round here where it's more rural everybody knows Bo and our only problem is sometimes it takes an hour to get to the end of the lane because so many people fuss over him. He likes it, though.

Re: People's attitude to Staffy's!!!
Oh where do I start lol so many evil looks, especially as I have tattoos and white blond hair and my boyfriend is covered in tattoos! People are so quick to judge but it's just something that comes with owning a staffie. I think they are all missing out as they don't get to meet my gorgeous Axl Their loss!
I did have to laugh the other day though, two people at the bus stop literally jumped out of the way nearly landing in a nearby bush to get out of Axl's way, I looked down and he was happily chewing on a bit of grass taking no notice at all!

Re: People's attitude to Staffy's!!!
A shop owner downstairs from me when mia was first unwell i had to take mia as far as she would go was in front of her shop she kept giving me and mia dirty looks when i was with mia or not. I got that fed up i went and left a comment on her review on fb then one of her workers pulled me up in the street!. Asking why id left the nasty review i said well my dogs legs werent working and sometimes i had to let her do her business just short of the shop ive received daggers, from your workers she said dnt worry if your dog does her business outside the shop . I said no im not worried you only rent the shop not the path outside or the street. I walked off . The way she acted ud think i waited deliberately till she opened her shop walked directly in front of the window and done her business. Or mia was a male dog and wee'd against the window some folk boil my blood but that was off the scale shes lucky i wasnt in a mood that day else i would have been done for assault.
