Hi All,

Baxter has been showing some strange behaviour towards my wife which I'm hoping someone can advise on. When he comes back from his walk he has what we call his mad half hour where he runs round the back room like a lunatic throwing all the cushions of the sofa and basically attacking anything that comes near him, this lasts for about twenty minutes then he calms down. When my wife is on her own and he does this he will growl at her and show his teeth, he only does this when I am not there, when he does it she goes and sits on the bar stool at the breakfast bar and ignores him, he will then lean over the back of the sofa and try and bite her, not sure if this is play biting as I've never see it, after about 15 to 20 minutes he calms down and goes back his loving self.

I'm confused why he does this as all other times he loves my wife, he wags his tail when she comes into the room, she's his first port of call for a cuddle in the evening when we sit down, he obeys her 100% when she walks him and she's able to take things off him when he has something he shouldn't and there are no signs of aggression.

has anyone experienced anything like this and how can we stop it, Baxter is 7 months old and has had the snip.

Sounds like he wants to extend the play time to me. If it's unwanted behaviour then your wife is doing the correct thing by ignoring it. As soon as he calms down she should reward with play or a treat, he will soon catch on.

Sounds like over the top play - redirect onto a toy and make it clear that skin is not for teeth! Both of you need to be using the same commands etc and staying consistent. Maybe teach the leave command. If he's food oriented try giving a stuffed frozen kong at this point to keep him occupied and settle him down. He needs an outlet, but this doesn't sound like acceptable behaviour.
