Back to work on Monday
So I've been off work since Christmas Eve and have to go back on Monday. I've loved spending so much time with Auri and we've really bonded We have cuddles , walkies, lots of playtime and she's learned her name,' sit' , 'paw', 'down' and 'leave'. I don't need to tell any of you how quickly you become attached
So here's the problem, after spending so much time together I'm worried about separation anxiety. My other half is here with her all day and they have lots of fun together. I have pics on my phone which will help but it's going to be a struggle not to phone every hour to check on her and get her to 'speak' to me....Sorry, I don't think I made it clear... it's me that will have the anxiety not Auri Any suggestions on helping me cope would be appreciated

Re: Back to work on Monday
I'm obviously so anxious I've put this in the pub section and I don't think alcohol is the answer. If some nice admin person would like to move this somewhere more appropriate that would be nice.

Re: Back to work on Monday
I would love to take her to work however my desk is on the call centre floor and she hasn't learned enough manners yet
I know everyone would love her but I can't see them allowing it. It's such a shame, we had guide dogs in last year and they certainly brightened up everyone's day. Things were so much more relaxed and it was a real morale boost, even people who weren't dog lovers had a smile on their face

Re: Back to work on Monday
You could always ask about bringing her in but otherwise I do understand, I really miss Bug when I'm at work but makes it soo much more special when you come home and they're mega excited to see you! As long as she has enough company/exercise when you're away, try not to worry too much!

Re: Back to work on Monday
She's an absolute terror Ian and soo bossy
My OH is home all day Rachel so not worried about her being lonely or not getting exercise and I'm not a bit jealous that he gets to spend so much time with her
We couldn't have her if Jim wasn't at home as my commute means I'm out of the house for 10-12 hours. I know she'll go nuts when I come home as she's so excited when I get up in the morning..though that could just be because it's breakfast time

She'll be fine - aww she's so gorgeous though I know how you'll be feeling. Try not to make a fuss of her when you leave your house - just go without even looking at her - then when you come home ignore her til you've made a cup of tea or whatever. It'll be hard but that way she'll learn that you're not stressed to leave her and she'll cope better with it. All to do with the pack leader etc.,

Re: Back to work on Monday
Good advice Jenny thanks. We do this in the morning too, walk past her crate to the kitchen without speaking to her and put the kettle on and the key in the back door ready to let her out. She makes seagull noises to wake us up in the morning but now stops as soon as she hears us moving about and waits patiently. You're right it is hard not to make a fuss when your instinct is to respond to their demands but gotta remember who the grown-up is

Re: Back to work on Monday
The way to look at it is... Wow what a great reaction when I walked in the door having had a long day at work.
You'll be fine at work as long as you share the pictures you'll surely have on your phone with everyone. When they get bored of your incessant puppy talk, which they will, just take the phone out and drift through those gorgeous pictures again

Re: Back to work on Monday
Thanks for asking Stella
Well, I managed not to use baby talk at work bored everyone with puppy talk and only phoned to check on her 3 times. Twice i could hear her giving Jim a row for the phone interrupting her game
James and I got home from work at 6 and she was napping in her crate. We hung up coats and got changed before speaking to her. When we did say hello to her she gave me a cursory sniff and was all over James like a rash I guess she was making a statement about me leaving her all day So I had dinner and waited for her to come to me ! She's now curled up beside me gnawing her old chewie.
Jim says she had a good day and her afternoon walk coincided with the neighbour kids coming home from school so she got to play with them for a while too. I swear she's grown 3 inches while I was gone !

Re: Back to work on Monday
I feel your pain!! We have been home the same period of time over Christmas. Poor Millie had been used to having us home more than us being at work as we've only had her 3 1/2 weeks. I was so worried about leaving her so was eager to see her at lunchtime for her walk..... man she was nuts. So excited.... never had anyone so happy to see me.
Since going back to work we have been loved to death.....I can't wait for the weekend again so we can be with her loads again

Think you've been bitten by the Staffy bug Amanda
The week is hard as I could easily spend all day with my Flo out n about. Weekends are great though, we have real quality time together and I can't think of anything better... Unless there's a pub at the end of our walk

Re: Back to work on Monday
You could well be right, she might be showing her disapproval at being left. Now is the time to be super consistent with the training and stop the pulling. It will take time but you will get there.

Re: Back to work on Monday
Auri shows her displeasure by making a fuss of Jim and James and pointedly ignoring me for about half an hour ! I think she's been reading the forums and is trying training techniques on me
Millie will soon settle Amanda, they're such smart cookies
