After having Millie with us for nearly three weeks we will be meeting with a dog rehab guy on Saturday. The rehoming centre we got Millie from gives an hours free session from a guy local to us.... his name is Nathan Watson. I'm excited to see how things go and will update after we meet

Re: millie
Unfortunately we have no information about her at all. She wasn't chipped and the pound gave her a temporary name that she didn't acknowledge so we are just going with itRachel33 wrote:Ooh will be interested to read her journey do you have any background info for her?

Re: millie
Update following our training session.
We couldn't have chosen a worse day for the session I must say. Weather was absolutely shocking and Millie bless her was not a happy girl.
She pulled like a goodun so the trainer got to see her at her most disobedient....ooops. However it must have been a blessing in disguise because he tried a head harness coupled with her normal lead..... not bad but hated the strap over her face to the point of nearly pulling it off oh mills!! He then went for his last resort option of a body harness (which id heard weren't that great for stopping pulling). This harness however had two lead links.... under the neck to pull the head round and one at the back of the neck to work like a normal collar and lead. The two together were amazing!! No pulling, calm walking, completely transformed. Don't get me wrong she still wanted to kill squirrels when she saw them but with standard walking distractions she was a gem.
He was great at helping us understand her behaviours, giving tips on training tools (shes not great at treats but he suggested using her breakfast/dinner as hand treats when out as she'll be hungry for it so more responsive). Overall a very rewarding and valuable experience.
The guy gives these sessions as freebies for any dog rehomed from our local centre. His name is Nathan Watson (website: Nathan Watson dog rehab )
We have nosed the net this afternoon and have ordered a harness..... very exciting!!

Re: millie
Ah great stuff. I've heard that these harnesses can work well too but I guess every dog works better in their own way, you just need to figure what works for yours.
It's really satisfying seeing progress isn't it

I love it. I was so proud of her today.... is it odd that I'm glad she played up at the start? I was just pleased he got to see her warts and all... happy mum

Re: millie
No it's good. To only ever get half the story and then try to figure the rest out is hard at the best of times so her acting up simply showed what she can be like.
