Burst pipe!!
Argh.. Downstairs all flooded as our heating pipe has burst. British gas have been informing my landlord for 2 years that the heating system needs replacing, but it's had to get to this point to put his hand in his pocket, despite the extortionate rent that we pay. 24 hours with no water, but and now no heating til it's fixed, which may not be until after Xmas. So mad!!

Re: Burst pipe!!
That's ridiculous Rachel, surely they can get it repaired before Xmas !!!
I would be thinking about witholding some of that rent if there is prolonged time without water and heating, afterall that's why you pay them.

Thats illegal rachel surely they cannot be allowed to get away with that thats awful. If possible contact a solicitor get them to lean on the landlord.

Re: Burst pipe!!
Shocking, hope you get it sorted sooner rather than later and think about finding new landlord if that's his attitude.

Re: Burst pipe!!
Some great advice in the link below Rachel, also don't forget to get plenty of photographic evidence of the damage to the property:
http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/complaints/complaints_about_private_landlords
Maybe also a hint to the landlord about seeking professional legal advice in this matter wouldn't go amiss. They may pull their thumb out of their backside and do something then.

Re: Burst pipe!!
Thanks for all of your comments! The burst has been isolated to the heating pipes, so water from taps/shower etc is now back on, but we will be without heating/hot water for at least another fortnight, after that it's Xmas so will likely be in the new year! Luckily we have an electric shower so can get hot water for a shower through that, but he's still refusing to get a new boiler.. Just wants to fix the pipes instead! Whilst looking at the pipes in the loft today, they literally touched one and it exploded, flooding our loft too, water coming through the light fixtures! £800 a month we pay in rent, for a 2 bedroom house in the suburbs. Hideous can't find anywhere else that will take Bis though!

Re: Burst pipe!!
Just got it fixed this morning, finally! The company are unable to communicate it would seem? Sent 3 of the same people out to do the same job?! Each one said they were unsure why they were there, heatings on now though, and I donated our spare bedroom duvet to Bug so she's been in a little warm cocoon for the last few days bless her! Thank you for asking
