recall - recall lead or Extending lead Empty recall lead or Extending lead

Post by Darylkstaffy Mon Nov 17 2014, 17:28

as my new pup will be out walking with us very soon and I believe recall training is extremely important but In the past extending leads have snapped before and was wondering if there was any kind of tough durable recall leads that maybe reach about 50ft just so that if I am recall training it wont snap etc

thanks guys

Horse training line if you want something that long. I used a 20 meter line Daryl.

There are numerous training leads availible that are not retractable. We've never had one break before just a couple of trips so you have to pay attention.

You can get the long training leads from Amazon, the one in the link below is a softex one so a bit kinder on your hands than the usual nylon lead:

If you want to soften the 'jerk' when the limit is reached you could attach a short bungee rope to the end of the leash. That's what I've done with Bo's 10m retractable and on the rare occasion he rushes off he doesn't wrench my arm out of its socket.

We use a horse training lead too, think we have the 50ft one. Gets dirty very quickly as it doesn't retract and the bungee may be a good idea Big Grin I have been pulled over more times than I would like when not paying attention to where Bane is shooting off to!

Get both. You can get the long lines in any length or colour on ebay and really cheap. We use the same heavy weight flexi lead for the pup that we had for 14 years with our old boy and never had an issue with it. The reason I say get both is for the different places you go. Down on the footy pitch a long line is great, but a flexi is great on something like a tow path or a cycle track.
