Help get the Bang removed from Fireworks Empty Help get the Bang removed from Fireworks

Post by Lizzie Mon Nov 10 2014, 17:19

If like me and Harry you have had an absolutely awful time lately due to Fireworks I wondered if you
would like to sign a petition I have been told about? It is trying to get the 'bang' taken out of Fireworks.
After all Fireworks are a visual thing and doesn't rely on the loud bangs to make them pleasurable, yet
it is the noise that causes such distress to our animals as well as some people.

Our Village Pub had 2 displays on Saturday night, one at 5.30 for children and another at 7pm for adults.
The first bang literally made me jump and despite having the TV on full volume, taking Harry for a good
run, feeding him a large meal and 3 different types of 'calming stuff' including one from Vets, he was
still a physical and mental wreck.

I though that was it for this years Bonfire Night and then just after 5pm last night (Sunday) it started again angry

Anyway, if you are interested this is the link https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ban-the-bang-in-fireworks-received-and-sold-in-the-uk?

Mods I do hope this is allowed, please kindly remove if not.  Thanks

I don't think there is any problem with this post. Not only do these fireworks distress our dogs, think about all the wildlife that gets affected too. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just once or twice a year but to have weeks of it just isn't fair Sad

Help get the Bang removed from Fireworks Empty Re: Help get the Bang removed from Fireworks

Post by RiV Mon Nov 10 2014, 20:04

We cant have fireworks here only ones that are organised with a permit like councils have at new years people seem to get a little edgy when someone burns half the state down letting fire works off.

I do remember as a kid dad would organise a Guy Fawkes day bonfire and we would burn a Guy on the fire and let off fireworks it was great unfortunately I cant do the same for my family now Sad I think the bang and wizz are a part of the fireworks.

Personally I wouldn't sign the petition but im not in the UK and we had no choice.

Cheers

Signed.

And shared on twitter, dont do facebook but have asked my sons to share the link.

Good on Australia for banning them, should be organised displays here too.

Seen another on twitter last night when I signed it had 8 thousand, checked it today and they had close on 20k,they need to get to 100k signatures for it to be raised in the house of commons.

Will try and get the link and post it as well.

Not all Australia banned them Victoria did but we live in a nanny state here, yes there is a danger with them and for us it was the risk of fire but now people just get illegal ones and let them of randomly so there is even less control.

Cheers

Help get the Bang removed from Fireworks Empty Re: Help get the Bang removed from Fireworks

Post by Nathan Mon Nov 10 2014, 21:55

Sorry but i need to buck the trend. if it was for one night and one night only like it used to be i have no problem with bangs... i like them too being a big kid. the consensus with all the guys i meet for walks are the same. my gripe is that 14+ days of the sodding things going off just isnt fair and that need to be addressed. after all if my dogs were to bark/howl for 14 consecutive night im sure i would have some council busy body slapping microphones on my neighbours wall. my view is be tollerant of others fun as long as it is controlled, ie, sat night proceeding, sat night following and the night itself. as dog owners we will know exactly when the noise will happen and take appropiate measures.

I have no issues with one night but was quite please to see one local place had a noise sensitive display and thought it a great idea, must be lots of kids that are petrified too and miss out on what can be very spectacular when you go to the big displays

Thankfully it's now raining, I haven't heard any tonight but Ledger has bolted downstairs panting twice no barking tho hope we have a break now!

Oddly he was ok on New year watching them on the tv as if he could associate the flashing on tv with the sound and it was more than enough to drown out what was going on outside

Help get the Bang removed from Fireworks Empty Re: Help get the Bang removed from Fireworks

Post by kozmos Mon Nov 10 2014, 23:25

i'm for regulating the bigger-bangs ..
( is there not already a limit set for fireworks ? )

sonic shocks of a medium variety are fine .. if one is expecting them
as a 'suprise' .. not so nice ..

i've had neighbours slamming doors so hard 'out-of-the-blue'
so hard there was a physical air-shock as well ..
over time i got very stressed out just wondering when the next shock would occur .. stressed to the point of potential violence ..
and .. during military service .. endured a few artillery incomings ..
not very pleasant ..

the animals surely don't understand what's happening
they don't know it bonfire night .. or week ..

anyhowz .. one other thing that must cause them ( the animals ) ..
anxiety/fear ..
be the smell of burning wood .. lots of burning wood ..

my 'Lady' doesn't react to the firework 'bangs' ( or whooshes or whatever ) .. but she did follow me everywhere at home
sat by me and quietly whimpered now and again .. she weren't relaxed ..
stroking her calmed her down .. for a while ..
and i rekon it were the bonfire smoke odour that had her somewhat uptight ..

for reasons stated in that petition ..
yeah i'd like to see a limit set as to the explosive power of fireworks
and / or where and when the more sonicly explosive one's could be used ..

but had someone suggested that to me when i were a kid ..
i'd probably object :-) ..

I certainly don't want all fireworks banned but do think that the home grown garden displays are out of hand now. We had them at midnight on a Thursday here and that's just not fair anywhere let alone in an urban area with lots of pets and kids that are trying to sleep.

It sounds like you guys have a problem and some regulation would be good anyone letting them off at midnight on a Thursday really is just plain rude and no respect for others and one night instead of 2 weeks would be better for people with pets.

One menory from when I was a kid is me jabbing my Dad in the bum with a sparkler as he bent over to light a bottle rocket gee did he jump and gee did I get a clip behind the ear Laughing Laughing now my kids cant do this.
