Leaving at night Empty Leaving at night

Hi I just got a staff mix springer. Male pup at 8 weeks. My last dog was a lab. I read both breeds can suffer from separation anxiety. First night I left him. But woke after four hours with him still wining so went to him and the last 3 nights he's been in the bedroom, but not the bed. I want a dog that can be left and sleeps down stairs. He is very anxious when he's left and won't be in a create but in he kitchen. Any advice please

They do prefer to be around people. You could try moving the crate out of the bedroom gradually. An article of clothing with your scent on it and a radio left on at a low volume will also help

Zeus whined for the first 3 days that we got him (we also got him at 8 weeks old).. the first thing I would say you've done wrong is bring your pup up to the bedroom (he'll know expect that all the time).. as harsh as it sounds, we let Zeus whine.. eventually after a little while, he realised we'll come back down for him and he stopped whining. As your pup is still young, just make sure he doesn't need a toilet, I'd come down in the middle of the night once, let him out, then put him back in. I'd take him back down if I were you, start as you wish to go on.

It does take a bit of patient for them to get used to it. Zeus is now 2 and a half, and he now sleeps downstairs freely, I took the door off his cage so he can go in there whenever he wants but he prefers sleeping on the sofa.

Thanks guys. Think i need to man it up and just. Do it ! Hes better today about being left. So after fireworks I'll just leave him. He's not going to be created, so except night mess. But his day toilet training going well. Just don't want an anxious dog. Big responsibility this puppy stuff. Its been 15 years and my last lad was a lab lol

If you do things gradually I'm sure it'll work. My Flo was like this when we first got her but she settled and found her own space to sleep downstairs eventually. Having said that, if we leave the door open she will find her way in to our bedroom Rolling Eyes

When you get a min pop along here and say Hi:-
