My puppies Red eyes
We have had our puppy Dudley for about a month now.
His eyes were slightly red when we got him but didn't think too much just thought it was puppy eyes and they would be fine. But over this month it's been niggling me that they could be poorly. Here is a couple of photos of him. Obviously worse when he's looking up. Rest of his eye is bright white and he's a happy puppy always eats his food, doesn't pull on the lead or anything. Any help would be appreciated. He is going to the vets on Tuesday but just thought if you guys had any pre visit advice of what it could be x
Here's a photo of him been normal and his eyes look fine

This could be a condition called Cherry Eye, the link below explains all you need to know:

Re: My puppies Red eyes
Thanks Cathy. It isn't buldging out or anything it's just red, but obviously I understand it could just been early stage of that if it is that. I'll see what the vet says on Tuesday, It says it's hereditary which is a bit annoying as he wil never be able to be used to breed from (reading that link) and I paid a lot of money for him been offspring of an Irish champion. Won't change him for the world though.

Yes, it would be best to see what the vet says and take it from there.

Re: My puppies Red eyes
If it is cherry eye would you recommend informing the breeder? As reading it is hereditary does that imply either her bitch or the male were carriers or could my pup be the first and it's passed down from him if he was to mate

Re: My puppies Red eyes
Yes I would recommend to inform the breeder but not until the vet has said exactly what it is.

Re: My puppies Red eyes
Well just got back from the vets, gotta say I've never had a pup so eager to get in the door of the vets or have so much fun on the vet table. Defianate way to his heart and friendship is through his belly.
Bet says although it looks like cherry eye it isn't, it's really bad conjunctivitous. So £11 later he's got some drops and should be fighting fit in 5 days. So reassuring to here him say it's nothing major. Thanks for your support guys x

Re: My puppies Red eyes
Good news. After reading the article on cherry eye, I was just going to say that removing the third eyelid could be detrimental in many ways. Murphy once had a wart on his lower lid removed as it was starting to scratch his eye; unfortunately the stitch got dislodged and the area got infected. The best way to help it heal was to temporarily stitch the third eyelid over the eye - he looked quite horrendous but it did the trick. Anyway, just pleased that sweet Dudley is on the mend.

Re: My puppies Red eyes
It went fine tonight! Just got him in one of those loving head locks. My other half conveniently disappears when it's eye drop time so I'm bad parent haha! He is keeping a safe 2m distance from me now, and will be for the next 5 days. Least I get a break from tripping over him! He's feeling very proud of himself for been so good at the vets!

Re: My puppies Red eyes
Bo had an infected eye a few months back and I put eye drops in for 9 days (it was cured in 24 hrs, amazingly, but you have to do the full course). I was amazed that all I needed to do was touch him on the chin and he'd put back his head and wait patiently for the drop, not moving an inch. Bullseye every time
