we are quite lucky in that tessa isn't scared of them they just seem to really annoy her when she goes out in the garden and she just barks and growls at them. still won't go out at night and leave her on her own at this time of year.

Neighbour's here have been letting them off, thankfully we are lucky and Rolo isn't bothered by them, he did venture out earlier to watch, then came in and curled up again.

Sick of them.

Millie is currently in her hide away under the stairs, she hasnt ate her meat and she wont come around until tomorrow morning.

Tried the adaptil collar from my vet 25.00, which was as much use asa chocolate teapot.

Looks like its going to be a lifetime thing for her, even ones going of in the distance that arent loud sets her off.

Blinds and windows closed and tv turned right up.

Spoiled a great day we had at the park where she was running around with a husky.

Thanks for that link Mia.

Would have save a few pounds buying the collar direct, will give the diffuser and the sprays a try.

She started to come around a bit by midnight, managed to eat some food, out for the toilet now she is lying on her back sound asleep, but I am wide awake, stressed lol.

Post by kozmos Mon Nov 03 2014, 23:14

i think my solution would be to build a near soundproof kennel
or large crate .. den .. type structure ..

don't know how effective it would be ..
i.e. so that the dog would be content to lay inside for a while

i do know that double-glazed windows cut down the sound quite a bit ..
and that there's plenty of choice for soundproofing materials on the market
( looked into it once due to noisy next door neighbours ..
( screaming and shouting and slamming doors at all hours ..
( 'n that's in a vic.terrace building ..
( thankfully said neighbours moved out ..

feel awful for the dogs 'n cats and all animals that suffer from fireworks

we have them around here most weekends .. albeit at a distance
( asian weddings .. be a tradition methinks )

luckily .. Lady takes scant notice of them ..
they don't seem to bother her even on the annual 'fireworks night' ..

Well that last night was the night from hell.

The vet prescribed diazepam for Millie, this actually made her worse than normal and I wont be giving her any more.

She lay in her bedunder the stairs like she always does, but she was actually panting for breath at times,I was nightshift but my wife and sons were in the house with her, they know not to fuss over her as this makes it worse.

It is so hard when you see them in distress.

If the government can ban smoking in pubs, isnt it time to ban fireworks unless its at organised displays outwith peoples communities?

Bane wasn't phased by them last year but this year he is so scared. I don't think I have ever seen him this bad poor guy! He just walks around all hunched over tail under looking sorry for himself trying to get on top of you for cuddles! Sad

Is it best for us to try and ignore him? We've tried playing or distracting him with training and treats but he's having none of it! Thank god he has finally fallen asleep now!

yeah best to act normal, dont make a fuss and watch your body language as he will be in tune with your every reaction. tuting and looking at the window will show your displeasure and swearing at the neighbours will just reinforce the feeling that there is something to be worried about. my brothers Dobe has been fine all his life with fireworks but last year at 6 years old and this year he has been a basket case shivering and whineing.
