Skin Flare Up
We have just been thinking about how great Bane's skin has been lately and how he hasn't had any problems....and then this morning came along!
He was whining at abut 6am which he never does so we went down to see what was up and his allergies had flared up in the night, poor little man!
It was really bad on his front legs and chest. We gave him a steroid tablet as advised by the vet and then bathed him straight away. It took over 2 hours for the bumps to go down and even now there are a few left, but it doesn't seem to be bothering him very much anymore. Going to book in at the vets for a general check up i think seeing as he hasn't been for a while anyway.
Does anyone have any advice for how to help soothe his skin when the bumps do come up? I wasn't sure if putting coconut oil on or something on would help it at all? ACV spray or something? Poor guy looked so uncomfortable!

Re: Skin Flare Up
Poor boy, looks so uncomfortable. Glad he's a bit better now. Not sure on the medication, others may help but I wondered what had done it - had you put heating on or something ?

Re: Skin Flare Up
Thanks guys! It had gone down but since getting home his skin has got worse again. We have sprayed the house for mites etc. and he has had some Bendaryl this eve so waiting for that to kick in.
If he isn't better by tomorrow I think a trip to the vets!

Re: Skin Flare Up
The Benadryl has worked a treat! he looks 100% better and has been snoozing all evening!
We've removed all unnessecary bedding and washed all we can to hopefully rid his area of dust mites tonight! Fingers crossed he'll have a peaceful night! Still not sure what set it off as he has been so good lately! :/
Mia I was thinking of trying some sudocrem but the bumps were all over him and it would have gotten messy! :/

Re: Skin Flare Up
Not sure it would help in Banes case Emma but we used Thornit on her paws and it really has worked a treat. Like Bane, Flo was diagnosed as house mite allergic and I really think this was wrong. Flo had an op based on that diagnosis (not saying she didn't benefit from it) but had I known back then what I know with this Thornit powder I would have held back.
Google it and see what you think.

Re: Skin Flare Up
Thanks Ian! I remember seeing that you had posted about how great it is!
It is definitely something I am going to suggest to my mum for Domino cos he eats is paws so much and they don't really know why.
I will do some research
So far so good today with Bane! He is absolutely bonkers this morning and no bumps in sight!

Re: Skin Flare Up
Must have jinxed it this morning! The rest of the day he has been a whiny little bugger and can't sit still. Looks like a slight rash has come back this evening He is definitely not himself.
