Fireworks have started ALREADY!!! Ped has gone mental...barking, running around, whimpering Sad someone suggested taking him outside while they're going on so he could see them but that didnt really have any effect when we took him around the block...we're now holed up in the lounge with the telly on too loud so that he hopefully cant hear them! Anyone got any ideas? Sad

Have you considered using the DAP spray, we use it for Rocky for the same reason with great results. Just spray it on the dogs bedding then leave for 10 minutes before introducing your dog to his bed:

Hi Kathy - thanks for the advice! Did it work well for Rocky then? Did he not notice the fireworks or did he just not get worked up about them? Thanks

i use serene-um calm tablets for tessas travel anxiety and they work.they were recommended by my vet and she says they are good for fireworks too and they are not sedatives. £10 for a box of 45 tablets and 4 tablets per day.

Yes it works well for Rocky, he is much calmer when we use it on his blanket then just let him sleep on our bed for some comfort. We also use it for long car journeys too just spray on his blanket then put his bed in the car on the back seat. He will then just curl up and have a snooze.

We hate Fireworks as well, and Serene-um was recommended to me by
a friend.  She used it for her dog and was over the moon with the result.

Trouble is 'bonfire night' is now 'bonfire month' angry

Theres an apatil collar as well, think theres medication from the vet for the dog but it has to be taken weeks in advance to have proper affect on 5 november thats one reason fireworks shud be banned as people are using them irresponsibly they shud only be used at displays

Thanks everyone! I think it's really bad that people can set them off whenever they want - there should be a law that they can be used on 5th November and that's it. Poor Ped was terrified and I know it scares a lot of dogs! I will have a read up on the suggestions from you guys and get something to try fast!

Google mimulus. We tried this with Floyd and it seemed to help, but then again he was getting on a bit when we started using and his hearing wasn't the best.

hi everyone - we had to go to the vets anyway so I asked him about it and he recommended the Adaptil collar as it goes everywhere with Ped rather than the spary which is only in his bed if you know what I mean? At £27 from the vets (including a discount because we pay the vet by DD!) I thought it was quite steep -it only lasts 4 weeks! but been online and found them for £17 so ordered a ccouple. Hopefully I will see a difference with them :-)

The DAP collars are good too, Rocky has them sometimes. Search online you should be able to get them for less than you would pay at the vets.

The subject of firewoks gets me angry, our poor babies do suffer terrible. They should only be allowed on Nov 5th and thats it. I use a plug in adaptil about a week before bonfire night seem to calm Vinnie a little byt with tv up aswell. He does tend to take himself off to his covered crate though where he seems to feel safe Smile

Always worthwhile looking on line for things Soph. The covered crate that Inez uses is also fab as they can feel safe in their own little den Smile

I hate fireworks except at organised displays. As you all say we not only get them on the expected nights of Nov 5th, Diwali and New Years Eve but for days / weeks before and after. Its awful what cats & dogs have to go through Sad

I don't know yet what Milo will think to them - he's ok so far with thunder and has heard the odd banger in the distance and not taken much notice so I'm hoping he'll be okay. Our last staffie had to be put on Valium - she's was absolutely terrified of them

Hi my 13 yr old has been petrified since a young age to the point of ripping the house to shreds if we happened to be out when something went bang! Including biting through a gas pipe under the stairs!! Even tried to crate him around firework night n he was happy in thgere until BANG.... He got his jaw stuck trying to break out Sad Have tried all sorts over the years and nothing ever worked. Then I discovered Dorwest Herbs Sculcap and Valerian drops and tablets. Used together for few weeks and all I can say is last year fireworks, Christmas n new year was the most relaxing EVER Smile
