new owner soon
Hi, I'm getting my new staff next month, as she's only just 2 weeks old at present I've had a staff before Farley he was amazing and lived till he was nearly 15, it's taken me a few years to get over losing him. Well I've got a few questions I'll post separately, I'm a little scared getting such a young dog, but wanted to get a puppy to train as I'm a wheelchair user and want the dog to be safe, obedient and get the best out of her life. Cheers Stef

Re: new owner soon
Welcome from Madge and me, are you looking to train her to be an assistance dog ? My friend with MS has one that is an amazing help to her; she did it with the help of a behavourist/trainer - so worth while. Lucky you to be having a new pup

Hi, I'm not training her to be a assistance dog, just want her to be super obedient and safe when she's out and about, particularly around a wheelchair. Could I ask, is your friend on this forum ? I'd love to speak to someone else with a staff and M.S as I've got M.S too.

It was mainly just if she had any tips on extra things essential to train the dog because of her M.S and also what things the dog could do as assistance ?

Friend says they could not have got there without professional help she worked with the trainer three times a week and trainer went out with them to streets and shops to train walking besides the wheelchair. She has a partner who does the exercising twice a day. Most of the assistance is with fetching, picking things up and closing doors.
Have a look at this website http://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/member-organisations/#dogaid.
Good luck

Thanks, I'm thinking of using a trainer for a while, to get her walking nicely besides the chair. I just want her to fetch the ball and bring it back
