Irish blue
Hi all,
When I've been out walking recently I've been asked a couple of times if Baxter is an Irish blue. I always reply "he's a blue staff". Does anyone know what an Irish blue is ? is this just a name for his colour ?
Thanks

Re: Irish blue
Irish Staffy is a slang for pit bull usually used when trying to sell staffy pups btw there is no such thing as an Irish Staffy

Re: Irish blue
Well he's definately no pit bull, kc regd with a pedigree.
Guess these people don't know the meaning of the term or the difference between a Staffordshire and a pit bull

Re: Irish blue
As said above it's just a name made up to sell pit bulls. People think everything is a pitbull these days thanks to the press

Re: Irish blue
It's strange, I've always had dogs but never had as many compliments on my dog as I get when I'm out with Baxter, it's nice to see a breed which is generally frowned upon getting some positive attention and of course Baxter reinforces it by rolling on his back for a tummy rub :-)

Re: Irish blue
I've been asked this when out with my misty too, she gets loads of attention with being a bit of an unusual colour, which she absolutely adores!

Re: Irish blue
Blue isn't an unusual colour.. It may have been 5 or so years ago but now the majority of staffies being bred are blue because it's fashionable, sadly they're often poorly bred because the breeders are breeding for colour and not health or temperament. There's also no such thing as an Irish Blue, as others have mentioned.

Re: Irish blue
Maybe should have said that people comment that she's an unusual colour because they say they haven't seen a blue staffy before. I don't know the statistics or the numbers of actual blue staffies nationally, just my personal experience from walking out and about in my area. Misty is genetically tested and has kennel club registration and family tree thingy too, so hopefully she will be ok? Sheryl

Re: Irish blue
Fair enough sorry if I seemed rude, it's just very frustrating that people are overbreeding them so heavily and selling them as a rare colour when they're actually everywhere lol! Have seen so many coming into rescue that are a mess health wise. Sounds like you've been very responsible in choosing your pup.
