Post by jayluke Sat Sep 27 2014, 18:30

Hi basically my dog is bein very funny with her eating.I cut her meals down to 2 a day a few week back shes a 11 month. But she eating only one meal day sometimes only half.Yet she would eat any other food off our plates if we gave her some so i just cant get my head round whats the crack.I have tried stuff like putting mince meat on her biscuits or chopping bits of lunchuon meat or chicken up sometimes she scoffs it down other days turns her face up.I am just out of ideas on how to get her appetite back so shes atleast eating twice a day.

They can get fussy or bored with the same things. You could try some tinned fish or egg on top. My Flo often doesn't eat breakfast, I figure that she just doesn't fancy it sometimes.

We have just started adding Salmon oil to her food which she seems to love. It's quiet expensive though.

I'm sure Poppy won't starve, but have you tried other types of dry to see if she prefers those ?

Mine is exactly the same. He's 11 mths, never rushes out to eat when it's given to him, picks away at his breakfast over several hours and will eat half his dinner then pick away later, of course happy to woof down anything that comes out of the fridge or our pantry !!! Laughing If he's hungry enough he'll eat. I just watch his weight and he seems ok.

Pru is also reaaaallly fussy. Loves anything we give her from our hands, treats, cheese or bits of meat but never seems bothered by her food and picks it over for an hour or so. I'm considering moving to raw.

When we first rescued Ped, he wasn't a big eater and sometimes his food would be in his bowl for hours before he finally went to eat it!

We then changed his food to Hills from the vets and he loves it! Without fail, he's waiting for us to put it in his bowl and then its gone within minutes - we're actually thinking about buying one of those bowls that stops him eating it too quickly! I think he was just not keen on the supermarket dog food he used to get. It doesn't work out that much more expensive either! I think its about £25 -£30 for a big bag which lasts him over a month.

Your first step should be to stop giving her any of your food. The fish oils are a good addition to her food but so is fish based kibble. Try adding a splash of hot water to make it smell a little more for her. She won't starve herself so put down her 1st meal and if she doesn't eat it, lift it and wait until it's time for her 2nd feed.
