getting fussy again
Bootz has gone off her dry food again-shes absolutely fine.Maybe teeth shes now 11months?, the only way I can get her to eat is to put fish in it but howoften can I do this.
She does dig the garden and eat mud, bark, grass etc trying to get her out of this but she has worked out how to eat with a soft muzzel on any suggestions?

Re: getting fussy again
At 11 months she wont be teething..that happens at about 4 months and they usually have almost all adult teeth by 6 months..so she has had hers for awhile now.

Re: getting fussy again
What food is she on? I'd just leave the food down for 10 minutes and if she doesn't eat it, pick the bowl up and leave it until next meal time. If she's healthy, she'll eat rather than starve you could put some tinned sardines in it or a bit of olive oil to make it more appealing though. I do that now and again with Loki, but only as a treat, really.

Re: getting fussy again
Personally I don't like just feeding wet as a meal, she is most likely being stubborn, Moo can do this too, if she picks around her kibble it gets thrown until the next meal, have you thought of trying raw egg or sardines mixed in Xx

Re: getting fussy again
Muzzles are for aggressive dogs to be worn when they are in danger of biting someone, they will not in any way teach a dog not to eat mud.

Re: getting fussy again
I was recommended it by the vet and it did work she only used it when she was on her own for about 3/4 weeks x

Re: getting fussy again
Vets are not animal behaviourists, they will and often do give extremely wrong and bad advise to do with training, then tell people to put their animal down when the training makes their animal aggressive.

Re: getting fussy again
There's no problem in adding a couple of sardines to her dry food, if that's what makes her eat it!

Re: getting fussy again
Katy is being funny about her food at the moment, I put it down to the heat at first but she still picks at it now its cooler. I've done the raw egg & sardines on her kibble but she picks out what she wants & leaves the rest

Giving her some fish in each meal really isn't a problem - every day & every meal if that's what it takes to get her eating!

Re: getting fussy again
Katy has always eaten as if someone was going to steal it, never a kibble left. But hardly touches it at the moment, I leave it down for 10mins then take it up, she's just not interested at the moment but she's not starving. Funny girl

Re: getting fussy again
Have you thought about switching to either a fish based kibble, or even raw feeding?

Feeding a mixture of raw meaty bones & offal instead of commercial dog food.
Have a read through these...
