In the park Empty In the park

Post by Sophieb908 Wed Sep 24 2014, 18:53

booo feeling a bit meh...took Ped to our usual spot in the park to throw some ball...there are hardly ever any dogs and I always have a good view point if any come so I can put Ped on his lead...a lady and her kids came along with an older staffy and a teeny tiny puppy (so cute) and started throwing the ball for the older one...I put Ped on his lead mainly so he didn't chase the other dogs ball but also cos I cant run after him if he was to go galloping up to them!! so we were just sitting on the grass and the puppy suddenly makes a beeline for us and I thought it would be nice for Ped to play a part in this puppy's socialising! Peds good with other dogs just normally has a sniff and isn't too fussed! But this puppy started jumping all over him and Ped completely changed and started growling! the woman came and took the puppy away but I was just a bit upset that Ped couldnt be good and friendly to the pup Sad booooo

Aww don't feel too down about it. Ped was just telling the puppy to "pack it in" they can't communicate their discomfort any other way and actually it's an important lesson for the young pup to learn Big Grin It's quite normal!

He behaved completely normal and and sociable, the pup should not of been jumping all over any dog or anything and needed to be put in his place, which is probably what her older dog would of done but she probably told the older dog off but really shouldn't.

Yeah I agree, he was would have been just telling the pup to stop it, if he'd wanted he could have gone for him!

I agree too, Ped has every right to say "Get off" Next time he gives a warning to a young pup or you see one coming maybe suggest walking along together for a bit just helps distract from each other and is a very social thing to do. Big Grin

I agree with Debs and co. I have actually been asked to let my Flo tell off over zealous puppies before now. As long as it's controlled and not aggressive, just a snap to say behave, then the puppy should get the idea.
