goes nuts over gardening gloves
they're leather
whenever they come out it's like I'm holding 2 raw rump steaks in each hand
can't dig a hole in peace!
started carrying a spare just to swot across the nose or other end (depends how quick he turns around) with
is this some sort of inbuilt attraction to leather?
he did destroy an old cowhide rug about 2 years ago .....

Sounds to me as if you have managed to make a game out of it!

Re: goes nuts over gardening gloves
it's no game this has been going on since day one
same as the nonsense with the garden tools .... like he's trying to 'disarm' someone
I bought a leaf blower instead though

Lol - it looks very much like a game if you are encouraging him to chew it! If you don't want him to chew them then discourage it

Re: goes nuts over gardening gloves
Have you tried to use the LEAVE command ? I guess he just thinks the rake is a stick to be chewed like any other, try taking some of his toys out in the garden with you to play with instead.

The leave command would be best. Bitter Apple applied to the gloves might also help.

Re: goes nuts over gardening gloves
My Staffy likes to "help" in the garden too.
And he truly does - sometimes. He helped me - seriously - pull out the roots of a small tree. I used a spade and he pulled the branches. He pees on nascent fox holes to deter foxes from making dens. He is really quite serious about his "job". And, yes, he's a pain when he decides that his job is to trash all the branches I have pruned off from the trees and neatly stacked in a corner.
Yes bitter apple is a good idea. Or lemon juice. When I want Rupert to just get on with his own thing I just bring a ball.

Joking aside the leave command would be a good idea as said above. Lets face it you wont get any gardening done!peppa wrote:I have a theory: the white ones are even madder than the other ones lol

This is exactly what Bane does. When I try to rake leaves, mop the floor, get the spade out, use a trowel, mow the lawn...it seemed like he just wanted to attack everything I pick up.
When you get the rake out or put the gloves on, as soon as he goes for them, tell him no and stop what you are doing for a few seconds. Then when he is calm try again and if he does it again, do the same. If he doesn't stop, take him inside or away from the area and leave him to calm down. He will soon associate attacking the rake and gloves with being excluded from what you are doing.
Bane is getting there! He goes a bit mad for the rake still but the other things he will now ignore
