Post by Harleykins Mon Sep 08 2014, 13:44

Hii! Smile

Harley had her vet check up today, he's really worried about her weight. Sad She was the runt but she should be a lot bigger than what she is. Other than that she's perfect, didn't even whine when she got her needle, she's an angel! Love Struck

Any tips on how to convince her to eat? I've tried putting her at her bowl, and she'll take some food out and drop it, then go sleep or play. She's on the food that the breeder gave her, so she shouldn't be like this. :/

She just has no interest in food, and the vet said he needs her to be a good weight in 4 weeks time, stressing!!!!

(Also, here's a cute passed out pup photo Laughing)

She's on Wags puppy, because the breeder fed her that, I know it's not considered a good food. When I was at the vet he gave me a big bag of kibble so I'm going to ease her onto that until I can find a more affordable substitute Smile

She eats fine as long as you're hand feeding her, she VERY rarely eats on her own initiative. Sad

She turned 8 weeks old on Saturday, and the vet said she's 300g underweight.

agree, very cute picture Love Struck ,take a trip down pets at home some of their better brands have a policy where if your dog does not like one brand you can change it with out paying for it,they also have trial packs too,i would get her off wagg as it is'nt a good food.

Try adding a little tinned sardines (in oil or tomato) to the kibble Big Grin

Ahhhh I could cry, I'm so happy! I put boiling water into her kibble and let it soak up and she's literally gobbling it up as I type! The food is obviously just a bit too tough for her to eat.

Ugh, huuuuge sigh of relief!

Personally I wouldn't worry over 300g, as long as her weight is increasing. The comment on changing your vet may be worth thinking about. Do you know what her weight is?
We found this site useful and decided on the JWB fish.

Great! We used to do this when we 1st brought Theia home but we would put her food in a tuppaware dish, splash the boiling water on for 20 seconds or so, tip it out then put the lid on for 10 mins. It softens them a little and releases all the flavour. I think you need to leave a little crunch to it to get her used to it for when you stop wetting it.

My pup was small for her age too, still is. She only just reached 10kg just before she was 6 months old. She's 10.3kg today and 6 1/2 months. Funnily though despite her not putting weight on too quickly (the most she put on was about 400g week between 10-14 weeks... I remember this mainly because that's when she was at puppy preschool and we stepped her on the scale every week) the vets aren't worried. If they are the runt, chances are they will always be smaller.
