Peak District
We have scrapped our week away somewhere hot and beachy for a 3 night stay in the Peak District with Mr Bane!
Does anyone know of any good places? We are hoping to do a lot of waking and adventuring with him, and have found a couple of pubs near by. We are staying in Gratton I think, at a lovely looking Barn conversion (a little scared of Bane destroying the place but hopefully he will be one tired pup and just chill out!)

Re: Peak District
Oh wow its near bakewell, loads of great places to walk, chatsworth, hope, edale, Derwent valley, hathersage, stanage edge, Castleton, to name but a few!! I've done a few posts in the recommended walks section. I also use this website to find good walks

Carsington water shouldn't be too far away from you either, not been there.

Re: Peak District
Yeah just outside Bakewell! Aha I will have to try and get some photos like yours.
Thanks for all those Saz! Will definitely take a look. Do you find it's quite easy to just walk or do you have to watch out about ending up in some farmers field who won't be happy with you?

Re: Peak District
No it's a walkers paradise, loads of footpaths and bridleways quite a lot of live stock though so a lot of places where you have to be on the lead. You'll have a brilliant time
The monsal trail is supposed to be a good day out with a cafe at the end, it's on my to do list!

Re: Peak District
The Monsall trail sounds familiar...is there a train line involved? We went to Bakewell a few years back for a little anniversary thing and just the drive from Stafford was amazing! Didn't really explore much apart from the town though.
And I don't think I would trust him off lead where there is so much space for him to run away I can see the yellow lead is going to be black on our return!

Re: Peak District
Thank you How far away are you then?
And we are more excited about going here than going abroad! We are just a little worried about the place we are staying and where to keep Bane if we went out without him...so thinking of trying a crate see how he likes it!

Re: Peak District
Just looking through some of your photos in the walking guide section and wow!
Do you have to do any prep or training with Daisy before taking her on long walks?
And probably silly question, do you take a map? Or are there little footpath or trail signposts as you go?

Re: Peak District
I think the monsal trail is is disused train line?!
You should find plenty of dog friendly pubs so you may not have to leave him much if at all
I'm probably just over half an hour drive from bakewell so not that far away at all
I would say if you can go to Derwent valley (ladybower, Derwent, Howden reservoirs) the scenery is amazing probably be about 45 mins from you, if you park at fairholmes carpark there are loads of walks, if your up for it round Derwent and Howden is about 3.5 to 4 hours (10 miles) you can get a coffee and a flapjack from the shop after!

Re: Peak District
I've just built Daisy up over time so she's ok with long walks just sleeps afterward! I do have maps but it depends where I'm going really. Country side walks you need a map but reservoir walks it's fairly straight forwardBane wrote:Just looking through some of your photos in the walking guide section and wow!

Re: Peak District
I would be up for it as long as it isn't chucking it down! Sods law and all though I can see what is going to happen Just don't want to cause any damage to Bane. The reservoirs look lovely though so might have to go easy day 1 and 2 and then maybe do a big one if he gets along with the others well!
I have so far found a few dog friendly pubs about 2 miles each from where we are staying so thats dinner sorted for the 3 nights!
Half an hour to the Peak District would be a dream! We were originally thinking Cornwall but Bane isn't travelling great at the moment in the car and The Peak District is so nice I don't know why it wasn't our first thought!
And I think we may have walked part of the Monsal Trail a few years back then! If so there is part over a bridge in a valley....amazing view, it was so nice! You should definitely do it

Re: Peak District
Yeah he has just turned 1. I guess we will see how he goes...our round trip to the park with running around was probably about 2 miles so he should be fine for the shorter ones

Just to answer this question, I just found the following information:
The Monsal Trail follows the path of the former Midland Railway from Blackwell Mill cottages to Coombs Viaduct, about 1km past the former Bakewell station - a distance of about 20km. For the most part the trail follows the path of the River Wye, which means it offers some spectacular scenery.

Re: Peak District
Hey Saz! We did!! Been a bit hectic since getting back but will get the photos up asap! The barn we stayed in was lovely! And it was such a beautiful place So quiet and peaceful! Got to do a bit of walking but ended up doing more site seeing with Bane! And we couldn't have asked for better weather. I wish I lived closer like you
Thanks Kathy! We walked a little way of it a couple of years ago when we went to Bakewell! Not sure from where to where but remember walking down a steep hill to get on to it then going through a long tunnel and over a bridge through a valley! It's a beautiful walk!
