Raw diet - what treats do you give?
So weve started Bailey on the Raw food diet and its been nearly a week.
To be honest Im still trying to get my head around it all, but he seems very happy with the chicken that we have started him on, and I have never seen him so excited at meal times which is great.
I just wondered what can you give them as snacks/treats with the raw food diet.
For example if I'm out with him and want to praise him for good recall or something what can I give him as a treat? I cant really walk around with a raw chicken wing in my pocket
I have read everywhere that you shouldn't mix raw diet with the kibble type diet as they don't digest at the same rate, so I'm worried about the little treats we used to give Bailey as they aren't raw??
As you can see Im still quite confused with all this and any tips would be great!
Thanks

We have a dehydrator and use chicken and steak as treats. If you are on a budget you can get the same results by slicing the meat extra thin and leaving it in the sun. It keeps the digestion times the same and they really love the treats

hmmmmm, sun isn't really an option in the UK haha - even in our summer its not always guaranteed
Maybe I will look for a dehydrator......where would I even look for one of those?

I think Amazon should have them. It's a bit of investment up front but IMO pays for itself over time. I also use the snacks for myself as well.

If you don't want to buy a dehydrator, you could do what we do. We use Dorset Dog Delights, they're ultra cheap and it's one lady in her kitchen making them so you can be sure of what's going in and you're helping out someone. All they're treats will fit in with the raw diet, the dried liver especially. My little one loves all of them, but I stick to the ones with meat in them (bar the apple and peanut because she loves both).

Amazon have some dehydrators, have a look at the link below, they range in price though so check on line at other places for a good price:

We use Honey's Real Dog Food liver treats. They are branded as Beautiful Joe's after a dog that was mistreated by the owner (famous story - Google it). They come in a really handy small tin, like the old tobacco tins and you keep that and then just get a refill. Plus they do this ace thing that when you buy a pack they donate a pack to a rescue centre or dog's home. My two love them.

Sorry, a bit late, but in case you're still looking...
We use two sorts of treats, home made and dried sprats. The sprats stink to high heaven and are super high value so are great for big rewards. The home made ones just keep them ticking over, and also provide some carbs and mins/vits.
The sprats are these:
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dog_treats_chews/trixie/trixie_treats/47245
and you get quite a big bag as they're very light.
My home made treats are simple, mainly flour and water, with dried seaweed (horse grade in big tubs is cheap) and an egg or 2, depending on whether the chickens have decided laying's a good idea or not this week. Mix with water till you get a sticky dough, then spread on a shallow brownie tray lined with baking paper. Bake at about 180 until they're brown on top. I then cut them into very small squares and put them back in the oven to dry out - they keep longer.

Re: Raw diet - what treats do you give?
weve been raw 5 mths now , sometimes i used barley cooked chicken and dare i say it a from the shop treat but one of those small tiny 10p size treats i break up into 10 bits so all she gets is a taste, i know its not ideal but she wont even have half of one every few days so until i can afford a dehydrator ...
