today could not of been more stressful....
Loki was bleeding from his bum this morning, it was awful, rushed him to the vets he had to have fluid and xrays, which revealed an obstruction in the bowel, my insurance decided they didn't wanna cover it so I'm now £437 down.....he's back home resting but has to sleep in the kitchen because he's had laxatives....

He's in the kitchen looking at me grumpy cause we are eating, I've gotta sleep downstairs tonight, because if he's sick he has to go straight back to the vets.....he was so desperate to come home!! They don't know yet, said it was organic matter, so they have put lubricant up there to brake it down

Poor Loki, hope he gets better soon; why did insurance co. not cover it ? Which company is it ? Maybe we'd like to not insure with them.

Re: today could not of been more stressful....
We think it's that pigs toe that he gobbled down, I've changed my order with the dogs butcher and taken off any whole bones, and we are just gonna use mince for the time being until his tummy goes back to normal, it was awful, he's been to the toilet this morning, still diarrhoea but no blood, he looked like he was struggling a bit to go, so I think he might be passing the blockage now!! I must of looked mad yesterday sobbing outside waitrose...aha xx

Aw no, least he doesn't need an op as it should pass on it's own. Yeah just add ground up bone until he gets more experienced with raw. Must have been so scary for you though hun! I was with pet plan but didn't get on with them, with animal friends now and they've been great so far and half the price xx

Poor Loki - hope he hurrys up and passes whatever it is safely - poor lad.
I was with E&L Insurance - they're awful to deal with. When Bree had her cancer they wouldn't pay out for months, then only paid a 3rd of the bill.
I'm now with Argos of all things lol.....& I made sure I read the small print !

I can only say good things about Tesco. Murphy had several serious ops and investigations during his last few years and Tesco always paid out to the maximum under the policy. Good luck Loki

Re: today could not of been more stressful....
Well luckily I had just taken put tesco insurance and they have been brilliant, sent me out a claim form!!! My vets won't deal with them directly...(because they get money from pet plan)
it was so scary when he squatted down and all that came out was blood I scooped him up and ran to the vets with him, I've ordered chicken minces with 25% ground bone in. Because I don't want to change him from raw as he loves it!!
So scary, thank you everyone for all your kind words, loki is currently being a rascal and chewing everything in sight!!! Naughty puppy such a greedy guts

Did you get any kind of explaination as to why Pet Plan would not pay out, or is it just that they wouldn't cover for this type of condition ?

Re: today could not of been more stressful....
They said because he had a similar thing with the onion gravy they wouldn't cover it...oh and he pulled a muscle in his leg but didn't need to see the vet, but because I didn't tell the insurance people (which I didn't think I had to because he didn't see the vet) they wouldn't cover it....I have cancelled my policy with them.
Now I may have to find a vet that will deal with tesco directly now

I'm with polsole veterinary clinic on park road, I'm thinking of changing to Beaumont in Pinhoe but I havent checked it out yet,
My vets won't deal directly with tesco, and I can't afford to keep paying out lump sums of money.
I feel bad because they have been pretty good!!

Don't know which are you're in but I used to be with Faye at St David's Vets (Right next to St David's train station) in Exeter and she was also the RSPCA vet, experienced, fair and level headed lady. Would recommend to anyone! Did have a poor experience with one of the other vets who was scared of Bis and cr*p at handling, so always asked for Faye, but she's brilliant xx

Re: today could not of been more stressful....
That's cool someone else I see on my walks regularly goes to st Davids, I was just a bit stressed out with the money side, my vets had a new vet and he was Russian and his English wasn't brilliant, so I found it really hard to talk to him.
They were really funny about payment...stressed me out a bit
They first gave me a quote of £2500....

Re: today could not of been more stressful....
Payment is generally the same with most vets.. You really do never see a poor one!! But my vet, Duncan, will only see you if he really feels it's required. The bills are still expensive, but you get your money's worth. It's worth calling and asking if they will deal with the insurance company directly

Most vets will let you pay by instalments if you ask and you could pay it up with the insurance when you get it

Re: today could not of been more stressful....
Sorry to hear. The poor thing. I know it's been a few days now, but I hope he is doing better. I've been told, although it doesn't add any real nutritional value, that adding white rice to a meal aids digestion (has helped my pup) so maybe try that?
Otherwise, my only other comment is, how awful regarding the insurance. Was the gravy incident prior to having insurance? If not, surely it would be covered. With my insurance it's only regarded pre existing if it occurred or showed signs before taking the insurance out with the company.

Sucks regarding the insurance. But as much as the $ hurt, it's most important that he is ok!

Poor little guy, glad to hear that he is back to his usual self! Trotters are pretty hefty with bone content so you may just need to work up to these.
What insurance plan do you have with Pet Plan, is it a lifetime? We were always under the impression that they were the best, and I don't understand why they won't pay again for the "same condition"?

Re: today could not of been more stressful....
That's what I thought also. I know they don't cover pre existing (as in before getting insurance) but it's ridiculous to think they wont pay out the same thing twice. Our insurance has paid out 3 different incidences (first one 1 night, next 2 nights, next 7 nights, in hospital) all related.Bane wrote:What insurance plan do you have with Pet Plan, is it a lifetime? Same here, we are with Argos and when we were going through all the skin issues with Bane we must have been to the vets about 5 times all skin related and they paid each time no problem, and will do for the rest of his life if we stick with them (from what I understand of our policy)

That's good to know. I changed to Argos Insurance from E&L and god willing not had to use them yet. I've heard good reports about them.
