Debo growled at the men -one off???
Or should I be worried about it?
Few weeks ago we've met a guy with 2 Staffies, male and female. And the male and Debo didn't get along together. We've met the guy after that just him and Debo was fine with him, like he's always fine with people.
Today we've met him again, no dogs and DEbo approached the guy and as soon as he wanted to stroke Debo, Debo gave a long growled, no teeth showing, tail stoped wagging, position himself sideways and hair on the back stand up. My OH reacted straigh away. But we now worried, what could couse it? He've never done any thing like that. Could it be that he smelled the guy's dog?? But he should be reacting that way??? Please help

Could be the smell of the other dog. As long as you are aware of it and able to recognize the signs I wouldn't worry. There will always be some people and dogs they just don't like for whatever reason

I'd say one off, he's obviously felt like he's needed to protect himself, just keep your eye on him love xx

Sounds like a bit of fear maybe due to scent of the dogs, and a reminder of the dog he didnt get on with. Shouldnt worry too much just be aware

I'm not sure if we did the right thing - we've told him off for doing that.
I'm worried because it was the first time. And he's not friends with every dog but was always friend with everyone.

Could it have been that Debo wanted to protect you ? Try to reinforce the trust between you both and you should be fine.

Hi Kathy, no don't think so. He was never protecting over us. The guy said hello and then called Debo's name, and just as DEbo got very close to him gave the growl. It was deep one, just like he wanted to warned him.
