Cats Empty Cats

Post by peppa Sun Aug 17 2014, 09:25

When peppa was younger we introduced her to one experienced family cat that she wouldn't leave alone even when he pawed her but I was thi king she's fine . Well last night there was a cat running in the st. So I don't know if its the cat or chase instinct that is very strong with her unfortunately she's a chaser but she was going mental pulling me like a train towards the cat. Now I'm thinking I should socialise her more with cats. Is it too late?

I reckon it's instinct. We have 4 cats and Lola is fine with them but if a strange cat comes in the garden she would chase it. I wouldn't be able to guarantee she wouldn't bite it  biggrin

Pups are too funny most staffies like cats if theyre socialised young enough. Think its a puppy thjng they'll chase a piece of paper if theyre allowed.

With our old dog we also had a cat and they were fine together but she would still chase other cats out of the garden. They are also worse when a cat runs, as already said that chase instinct cuts in.

Moo has a huge prey/chase drive - cats wouldn't stand a chance hence always on lead anywhere residential, but I had a hamster and Moo would let i run around all over her! Apparently when they smell of the 'home' they aren't seen as prey Xx

We've always had both cats and dogs and they have co-existed perfectly happily. However every dog I've had would chase strange cats out of the garden and I wouldn't trust Bacchus not to chase an unfamiliar cat on walks.

Lula knows Tigger will not put up with her messing around with him she may sniff his face but a sniff of his bottom means a swipe of the paw. The other night she`d not noticed him go into the back garden and he jumped on the fence. Lula came out spotted a cat and went running straight at the fence ready to chase the cat. Only to realize it was are cat and she came to a sudden stop and just sat down watching him. Tigger just looks at her as if to say stupid dog and goes about his business.
Lula cost me a small fortune in cat food recently as she keeps eating his food and i have to replace it. we have now moved it out of the way but they both will eat the others food and we can feed them together no problems. Lula is not a big fan of other cats and will chase them. TBH she will try and chase most things small and furry

Iza has been brought up with 2 cats and its generally been fine, the odd chase but the cats now know she is playing with them so don't get in a panic. Just give her a wee swipe and hiss if she's getting too rough.

Outside cats, sometimes she will walk past them and sometimes she really pulls on the lead but i don't think she wants to hurt them, guess it depends on her mood.
