Charles - Stunningly handsome staffy/shar pei (?)
Charles is a 10 month old shar pei cross and is currently on foster in South Wales.
The Charles Fact File
Dog status: Very good, has been in foster care with another dog and is good with those he meets out on walks
Cat status: Excitable, may be better rehomed without cats
Child status: Good, can be rehomed with children aged 6 years plus
House training: Perfect
Home alone: Can be left for short periods and is crate trained
Basic training: Know sit, has good recall and will wait to be told he can eat once his bowl has been put down.
This dog is such a loving young boy. He is definitely dog friendly, even when being snapped at and humped by other dogs! He has not shown one bit of aggression at all.
He is very excited by cats although he soon calms down and listens to you, so maybe with very careful introductions he could live with a dog savvy cat.
Charles is very playful with other dogs and is enjoying daily play time with the resident dog in his foster home Kipper.
Charles has had only one accident in the house and this was on day one. Since then he has worked out where the back door is and been fine.
He can be a little boisterous and excitable but for a young dog he is not too bad at all. He does listen and he is quite a submissive dog. He will let you take toys and food from him with no problems.
He is a bit of a pig though and he eats his food as if he hasn't eaten for weeks! Then he will move on to eat Kipper's. After a couple of times doing this, Kipper told him off and he has not attempted it since. His fosterer has been putting things in his bowl to slow down his eating and also put some food in a kong which is helping.
Charles is great with the fosterers two children (6 and 8 yrs), although he did knock the 6 year old over when he first arrived but now he is getting two good walks a day he is very calm in the house and no bother at all. He sleeps all night in a crate without any problems, although he is with the resident dog and this helps him to settle.
He pulls a bit on the lead but not excessively and his recall isn't too bad although if he is sniffing something he will come when he has finished and not necessarily immediately. After a good walk he will come home for a synchronised sleeping session in the sun! (And a bit of snoring too...forgot to mention that!).
Charles is a big cuddle monster and a stunning one too! He has an adorable personality and a shiny coat to match. He is a delight to have around and just a wonderful, gorgeous boy.
All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk
