When he does it make him stop and sit calmly then try to walk again and repeat again and again until he walks properly, may take time but he'll get the message x

Re: just cant stop it
I feel for you Lula was a real bugger for it and we had a nightmare walk before. Lula kept lunging forward and was pulling like crazy. There was a kid playing with a football and Miss Lula had her eye on it. We just stop and told her to sit and it took ages for her to do it. we had to repeat it over and over before she finally stop lunging and pulling. I felt a right fool and was getting so annoyed with her but kept my calm.
Lula was being a right madam and i wanted to quickly hurry on so people didn`t stop and stare at us but i knew it would make things worst next time. 9 times out of 10 we have a lovely walk but today wasn`t one of them.
Lula was a nightmare for hanging of the lead and we tried a number of things with her to stop it. we first tried treats but she quickly learned the more she did it and stop when asked she got a treat. Once she ate the treat she do it again to get another treat. Next we tried the stop and not moving but that did not work with her. so it was a case of ignoring it and refusing to give her any attention till she stop. for us it worked and Lula stop doing it and now when she starts a leave commands is enough to stop her.
Good luck and don`t give up you will find something that works for you

Re: just cant stop it
I think learning to walk nicely on a leash is one of the hardest things for a dog to learn, its not something that comes naturally to them.
Maybe have a chat with the trainer for some extra tips on walking outside of the class. Sometimes having someone to bounce ideas off and with can help you see the wood between the trees.

Pet Corrector spray - one burst & Milo stop there and then - never did it again. Also worked for the lawn mower aggression too - fantastic stuff.
I find I only have to show the can now and he'll stop instantly doing whatever he shouldn't be doing.

Re: just cant stop it
I had a dog in kennels that was a lead biter and I just never got her out of it. I assumed it was something that she was taught as a puppy, but you've had your since 8 weeks right? Maybe it's overstimulation.. Have you tried training her to carry something or trying to switch the lead with a raggy if low key responses aren't working?

Yeah had her since 8weeks
Just always done it, it tend to be a hyper burst that starts it. For instance earlier i took her away from 2 snappy dogs ( she was on flexi they were off) but she wanted to play so wen she ran my way she jumped up and bit lead! Its funny cos other times its street walks she does it

Nel used to bite the lead when we first started walking. I eventually changed to a metal lead and she tired it once realised it was not to chew on and now she walks on a fabric or flexible lead no issues

Re: just cant stop it
We use a fabric lead but we take a chain lead with us, if she grabs the lead we switch to the chain which stops it. We can almost immediately switch back and sometimes just the act of changing works.Crutchlow79 wrote:Nel used to bite the lead when we first started walking. Re: just cant stop it
Axl is a little s*d for this but only when he's over excited, he'll only do it when I have the lead as well and weirdly enough it's always in the same spot of the walk that he starts doing it. I've managed to stop him by stopping, saying "leave it" once, letting him swing until he realises we've stopped walking then he'll drop the lead and look at me, as soon as he does that I give him a biscuit and say good boy and carry on walking. Now if I say leave it he'll generally stop but it took ages and ages to get to that point so keep at it, eventually they will learn.
It is embarrassing though I can sympathise, once all the kids were coming out of the college which is generally where he'll start doing it and he was yanking me around in circles like a rag doll.... I could have killed him lol

Oh I just wanted to add, make sure you stay calm and don't raise your voice just act bored with the behaviour, I used to just stand there looking around or looking at my nails whilst he was doing it. I don't know if that actually helped but it felt like it did, I think part of it was him showing off to me...

Have the same problem with Toots.
Am practicing having her on the lead in the garden. When she grabs the lead, I say nothing and just drop it and walk away. The idea being that grabbing the lead is not fun at all and will just become boring.
Will take time I know but sure we'll get the message across eventually

Re: just cant stop it
Thanks all.
Just back from a quick walk and omg what a nightmare she just went totally looney n was really growling at the lead and acting like a screwball. There was people walking past and i was like oh plzzzz stop it theyr gonna think ur bad. Ignoring her done nothing so i got hold of her collar and said no and kept lead short as possible the rest but she was still trying. Its getting to be a real nightmare at like 16months old its not sinking in.
Will maybe take the chain lead with me then and if she starts swap them over

Re: just cant stop it
Hi guys
Well been really havin issues with the dive (aka the b$#@h) this weekend. Im so angry and disapointed by her behaviour. She has been extremely lead bitey and snarling and earlier tonight she wanted to go one way and i another and she was reversing out her collar and i reached to stop her and she had a snarl at me. Im really annoyed with her as despite her bad behaviour at times shes never shown a person aggression. Really just feel crap bout it cos i cant have her starting this.
Any thoughts would be great, shes acting really skittish too like iv said she freaks wen she sees the harness and she does this thing sometimes when u go to touch her she flies backwards.
Wtf!!! You would think she had serious issues but nothings ever happened to her

Re: just cant stop it
Pet Corrector Spray - honest it does work - Instantly !!! I've only used a tiny spray from behind my back when he caught my hand whilst jumping to get the lead and he stopped dead - never did it again. Also worked for chasing the lawn mower - one quick squirt and stopped. Try it please - you'll be so glad you did. I only have to show him the red tin now and he's like an angel (well almost lol)
Its only compressed air so its harmless and never spray too near his/her ears or in his/her face obviously.

Re: just cant stop it
Thanks.
Lol i should have shares with it!! I use it alot.
Been really hard goin recently and were getting really concerned about her strange behaviour. I mean shes been to training classes, wev had her since 8 weeks old (now a year n a half) and she seems to be not changing. I do sooooo much work with her and nothing, shes terrible for pulling ( tried several harnesses) chews the lead while growling and jumping at my legs, im gutted she cant get off her lead as sbe shows too much interest in joggers lately and would jump on everyone. Feel totally disheartened by it as irs been so much time and money so far for very little, so consistant and still. She acts like a freak and runs from me in the house and the constant barking is like wtf!!! I dont even feel bonded to her as she just doesnt care. I asked the vet and trainer if shes got a problem but they said all seems fine. Dunno if being only pup is whats made her strange. Just feel crap when i think about it. I dont know what to do. Her absolute erratic behaviour in house too is just stupid. At this age surely it should be finished

How was she in the classes? Why don't you ask advise from the trainer who met her? I'm not an expert but I think you and everybody else in the house must be firm with her as she must know the boundaries .

Thanks.
Shes ok in the classes just really excited and wants to see the other dogs. She does loads of commands but she is just very erratic in general. Shes always whining and barking (got vet to check she wasnt in pain) and just generally bein a pest like shel jist run and jump onto me on couch n its so sore.
Today iv felt really crappy bout it i just feel im not gettin through to her. Her behaviour is fine for a while then all of a sudden shes got me feeling like this and i dont know whats the best.

Back to basics, she's trying you out. Be calm, you've invested a lot of yourself already, keep it up, remember you're her pack leader.
