Not Sure Whether to Breed my Bitch for the first time
Hi I am afraid to breed my bitch incase i can't sell on the pups, I want all the pups to go to good homes and people that genuinely want them so I will be picky about who gets them and won't sell them to just anybody but does anybody know what sort of demand there would be in northern ireland from genuine staffy lovers. I have a stud lined up and everything for this weekend but before I do anything I want to make sure that I won't be left with 7 staffys, as much as I would love that i just wouldn't have the room or time. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Amy
Thanks
Amy

Re: Not Sure Whether to Breed my Bitch for the first time
Personally Amy I'd leave the breeding up to the professionals, there are no health benefits from her having a litter, there are lots of questions too,
Is she a healthy example of the breed and is the stud dog too?
Could you raise the puppys if anything should go wrong ?
Do you have all loving homes ready for all the puppys ?
Do you have the finances in place to care for the puppys, medical treatments, microchips etc. ?
I've no doubt there are many more questions to ask too have a read through this :- https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t29736-do-i-need-to-breed
There's just no need for any more staffs in the UK, I support a few rescue centres and they've got between them over 100 staffys needing homes at the moment and it's worse in other places. They're simply unwanted, and sadly thousands upon thousands are put to death every week due to lack of homes for them, and people continue to overbreed, especially non KC bad examples of the breed both in temperament and health.

Agree. So many unwanted ones why bring more in for no good reason?

Just, no. The dog situation in Ireland is so much worse than it is in England. Why add to an already out of control problem?

Re: Not Sure Whether to Breed my Bitch for the first time
Thanks guys i decided not to go ahead. I was considering it to continue her bloodline as she has won a few local shows and a few people approached me asking. But i only ever wanted her as a pet and thats the way she will stay. Thanks for all the replies

Re: Not Sure Whether to Breed my Bitch for the first time
Very glad to read you are being a responsible owner, there are already so many staffies in rescue centres everywhere. Anyone considering to breed should have a look around a rescue centre first and speak to the workers there.

Yep great decision , so many Staffords lose their lives daily in this country due to over breeding and irresponsible ownership.
