Chicken necks
Hi all!
my puppy is currently 9 weeks old and we give her chicken necks crushed in mortar and pestle, but at what age can we start giving her whole chicken necks?
cheers rodney

Re: Chicken necks
She could start now. Hold the chicken neck for her while she gets the hang of crunching it and isn't tempted to swallow hole

Go for it They might be a little big but you'll soon see if she can manage to munch through one or not! You could try wings too as they are quite small!

Re: Chicken necks
I've found a great indoor butchers in town that sell all sort of things like this - turkey necks, bones, little chicken wings and stuff. Am I okay to get some for Milo even though he's not on a natural food diet? Just anxious that it doesn't upset his tum & what sort of bone is best for him?? He's nearly 11 months old now.

Re: Chicken necks
It's fine as a treat or seperate meal as long as you don't feed the raw with or too close after/before dry biscuits. So she could have biscuits as normal for dinner and then a raw treat for breakfast and then biscuits again for dinner. Try to leave about 8-10 hours between the meals.
They can also scoff quite fast if they're not used to having to chew so feed bigger pieces to encourage chewing before swallowing or hold the other end of the bone so he gets used to chewing

Re: Chicken necks
I tried him with a chicken wing when I got back from his walk and had to hold it while he chewed & crunched it so he wouldn't woof it down. He really enjoyed it and I enjoyed watching him enjoy it lol is you know what I mean

Re: Chicken necks
Glad he enjoyed it If they are not used to the raw they can get a little excited at first! It's weird but we used to love watching Bane eat his dinner when we first started! We were so fascinated
We found dried chicken feet at a small independant pet store about 3 for £1.20...otherwise only seen them at big dog fairs/shows!

Re: Chicken necks
Thx Bane - I know what you mean about watching them eat - they just relish every morsel don't they. It's so satisfying
