Boarding kennels Empty Boarding kennels

Post by Leebouncer Tue Jul 29 2014, 19:50

Hi all,

I was just wondering how staffies tend to get on in boarding kennels, I'm going abroad for 2 weeks and I have to board my little baby Sad, I wanted to stay in this country so I don't have to leave him but my daughter loves where we go abroad so much, I have booked him in and the kennels are very good he is even going swimming both Wednesdays lol, but I'm getting so stressed and upset the closer it gets, I'm
Worried..will he miss us which I really don't want him to, will he stop eating ....... I'm so stressed

I have never left Daisy in kennels as luckily I can leave her with my mum but not everyone has that option, there will be others who can let you know their experiences I'm sure  Smile

Depends on the dog. Biscuit wouldn't cope but she was in rescue kennels for a year and hated it. Had staffies in at the boarding kennel I used to work at.. Some were pretty resilient and made the most of bombing around in the fields and posh food! Others pined and threw themselves at me as soon as I opened the kennel door..

He is 2, and yes I'm going to miss him so much, last year we found someone who has dogs at there house and takes them for walks etc but had a nightmare and it ruined my holiday, she kept texting me saying he is crying all the time and the neighbours are complaining... She put him in his crate while she went out and let the other dogs play in the room he was in... Not surprising he cried

I had bad experience a while ago with somebody supposedly a pro that was supposed to take peppa for few days but instead took off! And on the last min. Go and see the place with him I would advise so you can relax a bit but its always stressful to leave them I'm going to take her abroad when I go.

I guess you need to visit the kennels - you could also try it for a night before you go - just an idea Xx

We went to have a look round and it seems nice, they told us to bring him back and leave him for a few hours for free so we did last week, they put the lead
On him and took him off for a walk and he didn't even look back lol hope that's a good thing

I really am going to try and have a good time, the kennels said I can ring everyday if I like ( I may take them
Up on that lol), if I come back and he's not the same then that's it for abroad holidays.

Like you say, he didn't even look back when left there for a few hours so I think he'll be fine. In fact it'll be you fretting and not him. To be honest, you won't know until you try it and I would advise against phoning every day. You can't just drop your holiday and return if he's cried. I know it sound tough but you do have to put it to the back of your mind and enjoy the break.

Just makes sure you're happy with the kennels and conditions. There's ones round my way that are 5* and come complete with web cams so you can see them  Surprised

I'd love them to have webcams lol, I will relax and perhaps only phone a few times a week, the kid that brought the dog back to us actually gave him a kiss on his lips lol so they must love dogs, cheers all xx
