Hot weather and walkies
How are you all doing walking your doggies in this weather? I aim for early and late evening walks now, unless of course I cant get madam out! (Like this morning due to sons friend staying over) I also keep them shorter and always carry water for Pixee. She has access to the garden always, which she loves, seeking to sunbath, then seeking the shade or coming upstairs or spearing out frogleg style on the kitchen floor to cool off

Re: Hot weather and walkies
My Flo is in and out to the garden topping up her solar batteries all the time. As soon as she gets hot (5 Mins max), she's into the kitchen to cool off on the tiled floor. I've been walking her through the local woodlands in the evenings as it's cooler with just a few mins in the fields playing fetch before we head home.
There is a water bowl in the park but she is so fussy that she wouldn't dream of drink out of a bowl some other pooch has used. Her travel bowl or nothing

Same as you Lynne - we're lucky in that we have a green with trees right across the road from us so I take her over there middle of the day under the trees for a sniff around but proper walks - I do as you do.

Stella only has one walk per day. Early morning as that's when she has the most energy. She is in and out during the day always looking for a cool spot

Re: Hot weather and walkies
Lula normally has 3 walks a day but we are down to 1-2 at the moment. The first walk is at 6am and we go to the park. Once home the back door is opened and she goes out while i make my son toast before work. Then Miss Lula goes back to bed. Now she used to have a mid day walk but we are missing that one out at the moment for two reason.
1 the hot weather and two her lady bits are looking a little bit bigger than normal.
Lula has access to the back garden all day and has been out all day chewing her bone.

Re: Hot weather and walkies
Bug is loving the sun but hates the humidity! Also been trying to do an early morning and later night.. Missed this morning as worked a 14 hour shift and was exhausted, but she had her friend around for a play date in the garden. She's been cooling down on the kitchen floor with ice cubes/frozen banana/coconut kongs/a frozen marrow bone. Just tried a walk as she was restless but she was lying down after 15 minutes so will just take her at 8/9. Off to Argos to get a hose attachment as she likes playing with the water to cool down! Really want to get her a paddling pool but can't find a very sturdy one?!

Moo doesn't mind it - we are out all day just make sure we are near a river for swimming or a wooded area with shade - she is a bit of a sun worshiper god knows where she got that from! x

Early morns and later evenings, just been in the wood now and it was surprisingly cool, but always carry water so I can cool him off and he has a drink Our living room and kitchen are very cool all wooden floor and tiled so he is fairly cool if I have to go to work

Re: Hot weather and walkies
We normally do a long walk and play date from 0600-900 and then a very short walk around 1800 with games of tug of war in the house inbetween

Re: Hot weather and walkies
I take Bane out before work at 6:30am and even then it is pretty hot already! OH then takes him out for a quick one early afternoon but too hot for running in the park so gets a road walk. Then if I get time he has another in the eve when I get home! He came back panting tonight though and we only went out for 5 mins!

Re: Hot weather and walkies
I take mia out early morning and early evening during the day if she needs. i keep her in the shade but always check the ground first. I always carry a water bottle with a little tray for water and advise other dog walkers in my area to do the same at the pet shop theres always a bowl of water for dogs passing i think all the shops should do this in hot weather.

My mate uses a kids plastic sand pit for a pool for his huskies.
