New To Staffordshire BullTerrier - Help Please
Hi All
I'm new to this Forum and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed. My parents and my sister have male staffs and they are so gorgeous and loveable i have fallen in love with them and want one to add to our family. My mums dog lives with a male greyhound who is un-neutered (They both havent been done) and they get along fine with no issues at all. My sisters dog is fine with other dogs but other dogs dont like him and again he hasn't been done.
I have a 3 year Old Cocker Spaniel that hasn't been done but he has lived with a Male BullMastiff and a German Shepherd and there were no dominence problems from my dog at all, we rescued him when he was a year old as the owner couldn't cope. He is so calm and laid back that he really is on his back. He is so good with my daughter who is 4yrs old and is very much her dog i suppose.
So my question is would i be able to bring a puppy staff into my home and it be ok with our dog? Would i be better off getting a boy or a girl, I dont mind having the puppy neutered at all especially if this stops any aggression or dominence issues? And finally they have such bad press i wondered if it is the kind of dog you can talk for a walk and let it off the lead?
Many Thanks for Reading this and i look forward to your views and help
Regards
Dee

hi from me and woody.
i csant answer many of your questions as i only have woody but as for letting them off the lead it should be no problem-it all depends on the dogs temperament and the owners control. we are just learning at the moment and Woody has been great

I'd get a girl, too. She'd fit in much better with an existing male.
If you take the time & effort to socialise and train your pup, she will be fine to let off the lead. But remember that even the friendliest staff will defend itself with considerable force if they need to, so you may need to watch other people's dogs!

Hi Everyone
Thanks for helping, I think it definitely is a wise choice to go for a lovely little girl and I am hoping to go and see a litter next week.
Training isn't a problem, my current dogs recall is to a whistle and am hoping to teach this to the new addition as well.
Thanks again
