Milo is 10 mths old and when my husband walks him in the park in the morning Milo will appear to be looking for someone (anyone) and if he sees someone right in the distance he's away - gone. Then when he realises that stranger doesn't have a dog to play with he'll just sit unless he then sees another person further on and no matter how much my OH calls him to come he won't budge & OH has to walk over to fetch him. This of course is exasperating husband sooooo much. He doesn't hit him or anything like that - he just brings him home and moans to me that the dog isn't trained / can't do anything with him etc etc etc  Sad .

When he's with me he's fine - although if he sees a dog I have to be quick & clip him on the lead. I do walk him on a 30ft training lead most days so he can run around. I take him to training classes once a week and am working on recall which is great in the classroom  Straight Face .

Is it that he could be bored with my OH? He takes him on the same old route every morning and doesn't talk to him much except to SIT at kerbs or leave it etc.

Jenny, yes I think he may be bored on his walks with your OH. Milo is still very young and needs excitement and stimulation on his walks. Maybe he could take a ball with him or try throwing sticks?

Try changing his route as well but I think the best idea of all is to train your OH Laughing

We do a lot of stick throwing on our walks with Axl he loves sticks and it helps him totally focus on us, maybe you could encourage your hubby to throw a ball or sticks for him? Keep him on the long lead for safety until he's recalling perfectly.

When your hubby walks him does he let him off the lead ? You say that his recall isn't there yet so shouldn't really be off lead until he is better at this. Maybe hubby could do some recall training with him while on a training lead. Some good tips in the thread in the link below, you may also want to try clicker training, see link below:

I agree with Kathy on this, it does sound like your pup has had very little or no recall training. Your pup shouldn't really be off lead until he is, for his own safety more than anything. If he should run up to another dog that is DA, anything could happen. Same as Kathy says, clicker or reward-based training for him to come back to you when called shouldn't take to long. I used to do this also used to make Meg sit and stay whilst I walked away for some distance then called her to me (all reward based). She quickly picked up that there may be a tid-bit in it for her if she came to me when called.

I think so too - especially the expression. Milo has huge googly eyes  - so cute. He's very very spotty all over. I love him to bits  Love Struck
