Jumping!! Empty Jumping!!

Post by Marcus1991 Mon Jun 30 2014, 17:03

My staffy pup is a nightmare with jumping, when me or anybody else first walks in the house hes like a kangaroo and its really starting to get to me and everyone else. Ive tried 'tapping' his nose, telling him to sit, ignoring him, putting him into another room. Nothing seems to be working. And also when i take him for a walk i take him out in the countryside or onto the beach and let him off the lead so he can have a good run around and roll in the mud which he loves, but all of a sudden he will just come running towards you and start jumping all over you for no reason and then i get covered in mud and i just dont know how to stop him! He just doesnt listen to anything! Any help appreciated!

I can sympathise with u but on the upside your not alone. Its just staffys being staffys.
Tap on the nose wont work n might start ur pup mouthing and associating a hand with a tap on the nose. I still have problems with this but did find ignoring completely worked best though it took a while. We tried all sorts like pet corrector spray to stop it so maybe use that if nothin anyone else suggests works.
My problem too is that my mum doesnt do the same as me arghhhhhhh very annoying

Low key responses and heavily practised commands. Biscuit was very insecure when I first took her in and would jump up to face height. I turn and walk away continuously until all feet are on the floor and then praise. She still forgets herself when very excited, dogs like to greet face to face so he's just trying to be near, but it can get out of control and must be discouraged.

Dogs noses are very sensitive; tapping them on the nose can cause real damage!

When Bane jumps we cross our arms and turn our back to him until he sits or calms down. Worked great for us and our neighbours who do the same to him.
Outside is a totally different story, so we are working on this (making him sit when someone approaches and only letting them pet him when he is seated) It just takes a lot of time, patience and repitition and everyone has to behave the same otherwise it won't work Smile
