Hello from Emma and sonny jim
Hello I'm a new Stafford owner to my little sonny jim ...sonny for short, he's 9 weeks and toilet training really well I'm really happy with him so far ..... Would really love some advice on constructive ways to play with him that's not encouraging bad behaviour, I've only ever had labs before so this is all new to me!
I'm good at the practical things toilet training feeding and lead training but not sure how to balance playtime with constructive behaviours
Does that make any sense ...? Lol
Thanks ems and sonny

Hi & Welcome from Flo and me Ems & Sonny
I'm sure there will be loads of advice from the forum to help you on your way, so ask as many questions as you like.
Play time with a Staff can be a little rough at times as they do like to play hard. I use rope toys as they seem to love tug o war with you and the usual fetch games which I'm sure you're used to. Some play hide the treat etc, I don't cos my Flo is far too lazy
As for positive play, I'm sure others here will help with more suggestions.

Training is playing for a dog - and playing in a way is training. Mental games, tug games, ball games and lots of saying no when he gets over excited lol.

Re: Hello from Emma and sonny jim
Kongs filled with treats and capped with Peanut butter (organic) makes for a good toy. Pop it in the freezer to freeze the peanut butter. this should stimulate his mind figuring out how to get the treats out. Should stop him getting bored.

Welcome from Bane and I! The amount of times Bane made me bleed! My hands and arms were like pin cushions!
I found the playing "find it" with treats and toys was good for him! He used to (and still does) get really excited and it tires him out! We also play fetch in the house which is good for teaching him to come back and the command "drop" or "leave"

Re: Hello from Emma and sonny jim
Agree about Find It.
Staffies have lots of energy, are v determined and focussed when they want something and they want badly to please their owner. They love having a job or a puzzle to solve. They are also - in my experience - v intelligent. There are now two rescue Staffies working with the police service as sniffer dogs.
So it's not so much a case of needing endless walks - though releasing that energy is a must at least once a day - but they can be very tired out and stimulated with mental challenges, learning tricks and so on.

Re: Hello from Emma and sonny jim
Thanks for the advice funny enough I'm the only one he's bite .... I've got two toddlers and two teenagers and he's really tolerant with them but he gets really excited with me I'm so impressed with him he's already basically toilet trained and starting to sit and the bare basics of fetch ..... Smart little bugger
Or though he did get lost in my recliner chair this morning! Lol
Thanks all feel more confident with you guys experience to refer to
Really won a get this right! Been looking into puppy trainning in my area got a feeling he'll smash it !!!
