Natures Menu mince packs
So we ran out of our DAF order and the extra meat from my parents
Next delivery is the 26th so we are having to substitute with supermarket chicken wings and natures menu minces from PAH!
So far Bane seems to love them! The tripe one does look a bit pale however and they seem to go very soft and mushy when defrosted :/ doesn't look particularly appetising...don't think I am so kean! Anyone else buy these?
Anyway bring on our next delivery! At 95p per pack this would cost us a bomb long term! O: How do some people do it?!

Re: Natures Menu mince packs
I used a few of those packs starting out they were handy in introducing the idea to my parents and Ledger liked them but Our p@h does these...
http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/dog/dog-food-and-treats/frozen-dog-food
*direct link doesn't work you will need to select the 1.1-5kg option on the left*
Not much difference in price but easy to portion and looks like proper mince not mush
Could always get to a butcher first thing one of the ones in the market just have a help yourself box of pigs heads/ribs etc and another gave me all the chicken carcasses after they had taken all the fillets off them (still fairly meaty) and they also sell 50p bags of lamb ribs etc

Re: Natures Menu mince packs
Sorry Jules I didn't see your reply! That butchers with the chicken carcasses etc sounds amazing! There is a big indoor market here I might have to go down and see if there is anything going cheap!
Yeah we spent ages trying to work out the difference in price for the nuggets and packs and were just "no surely thats not right...how much? What no lets calculate again" haha But I think the nuggest come with added extras don't they? Like veg and rice and bits How's Loki getting on with it?

Re: Natures Menu mince packs
It's crazy!! I had to ring them earlier to be like are you serious....ahaha, well we've decided to try the natures diet as a staple and then add the offal/bone to it because we don't have the freezer space and he prefers the trays of meat, I haven't fed him any bone yet, I am soooo nervous, I am so paranoid he's gonna choke, and I'm still unsure whether I should feed bone every day and what bone I should start off with. My butcher was very rude to me today. So I won't be going there anymore.

Re: Natures Menu mince packs
Oh dear! You should have seen some of the looks I got when asking for pigs head and stuff in the butchers...
I'm not sure how the nuggets and things work, in terms of introducing new meats, but maybe hold back on the offal for a bit to let his stomach adjust to the raw. Offal is very rich and can be a bit too much to take for an untrained tummy so start off small when you do start adding it!
As for the bone just go for it! It is great for cleaning their teeth! Try with a chicken wing or something small and hold one end while he chews the other to make sure he crunches it down enough. You should be feeding roughly 80% meat, 5-10% offal and 10-15% bone but it doesn't have to be exact and can be spread over a month or so.
A typical day for Bane is: 1 chicken thigh/drummer/wing or 1 whole fish and 400g minced meats and offal. The minces we get are roughly 10-20% bone already so that is about right. The chicken piece/fish has a high bone content which is then evened out by the tripe mince and offal to make the correct-ish ratios.
As long as you try to get it about right, just adjust according to Loki's weight, condition and stools. (We became poo watchers when we first started raw to make sure we were getting things right! )

Re: Natures Menu mince packs
It may be the adjustment to the raw. It takes a lot more raw meat to fill them up than it does biscuits! I think at 5 months ish Bane was on 300g biscuits before we switched to raw. We started raw at 450g ish but had to up it to 750g to maintain his weight!
Either that or he just loves it so much he wants more

Ah no! We always go for the supermarket cheapy tubs! They are a bit smaller too so may be good to get him into it
I hope he likes the raw egg! Once he has a taste for it you should try giving it to him whole in the shell Very interesting to watch!

Re: Natures Menu mince packs
Yeahh!! I'm gonna have a look tomorrow when I go to morrisons. I am just worried I am not feeding him enough, he has 1 tubs of natures diet a day, with a bit of natures menu, although I've run out of that now. The natures diet is a complete meal, so he's getting everything he needs just weird calculating it.

Re: Natures Menu mince packs
That's good to hear! Just watch his weight and if you notice him getting skinny up his meals a little Bane was a pretty scrawny puppy and we really noticed him beef out when we switched to raw....he didn't necessarily get much bigger but he got a lot more defined.

Re: Natures Menu mince packs
Loki was looking really odd, hes always been thin, but he shot up and just wasn't fulling out, so he looked like his body didn't belong to his legs, but now his shoulders are more defined and his neck is alot bigger, that before, I'm gonna try and find a before and after photo
