Few questions
Hi ok i keep getting asked what my dog is crossed with he is about 7 months old any ideas even if he is.
Also when he sees a another human being or dog he runs and charges at him/her and jumps all over them any idea how to stop this i walk rural areas off lead so its unlikely we see people but it happens ny ideas how to stop this.
We have an older dog who he barks at and rubs against even know she hates them and when she warns him him and gets worse and all hyper and growels any ideas how to stop this"?
Thank you

Re: Few questions
The health visitor should stick to what she knows and stop talking BS.
I`d suggest using a long line when on walks and maybe time outs for when he gets to excited. someone with more experience will be a long soon to give some advice

Re: Few questions
Looks Staffy to me but hard to tell if a cross from the pics.
Staffs are no more killers than Bee's, so the health visitor has no right to say things like that which are Bourne out of ignorance and bad press reporting. The unofficial name for a staff is the Nanny dog because they protect kids not attack them.
When you get a min, pop along here and say Hi:-

Training is the key here when out walking. It's gonna take a while but will pay back huge if you spend the time. Go to basics with command and reward, for example, sit, stay & recall. When he gets excited get him to sit and calm down and then reward when he has.
With your other dog, normally a pecking order will establish itself but sounds like your young one is pushing boundaries. Watch that things don't get out of hand between them and be ready to remove your young one so that things don't escalate and both can calm down.
I'm sure others will be able to offer further advice

Re: Few questions
As Ian says, the Staffy is only one of two breeds recognised by the Kennel Club as being safe with children, hence the term 'Nanny Dog', so tell your health visitor she knows nothing. Blame the deed, not the breed. Explain to her (if you can be bothered, because she sounds like she/he knows it all), that a bad owner = a bad dog or it's nurture not nature that determines the temperament of dogs. Staffies are excitable dogs, and if given an inch they will take a mile. Meg jumps up at people if they greet her, but if she is ignored more often than not she will go up and have a sniff then be on her merry way. Staffys are renowned to be very much 'people dogs' and enjoy the company of humans, so don't be concerned here. It'll take patience and training and learning her good recall. I use an extendable lead when I take Meg out, so I can keep her under control if she does get a bit too excited. The older dog will tell your pup where the 'line' is, and if he oversteps his mark he will be told. Your pup will learn his boundaries in a short time and they will get on. It's all about learning for your pup.

Daz, any idea what the other breed is? I often quote this fact but feel as though I only know haf of the facts when asked what the other one is.

Sorry ,but you are wrong. The only other breed recognised by the UK KC as being reliable with children is the Chesapeake Bay Retriever.
