I've tried to search for a post on the time out method for when she thinks it's that time of day when she can do as she pleases!
We've had her out for a few short walks over the last few days, but as you know that's no where near enough to burn off her energy. We try to direct her onto other things but she can get quite snappy so thought we would try time out for when she gets like that.
What we need to know is what sort of area, for how long and how often. Or do you have any other suggestions we could try?
Thanks
Pete.

Oh... I think it's a place that you will always make the naughty step if that makes sense. So do you have a space that you can watch her and direct her back to until you're happy that the time out has had the desired effect ? How long really depends on how quickly things calm down and you get the response your looking for. I would wait until she lays down and gets resigned to being in the calm down space, give a bit of time and then call out of that space.

What does she do during her crazy time? If it's just letting off steam and running around like a loon, I'd let her get it out of her system Smile But if she's refusing to listen, then as Ian says, a naughty step space is ideal.

Thanks for the replies. It is mainly letting off steam, we expected her to do that, but she often has to be stopped, when it starts to get too destructive or dangerous when she starts bouncing off the inside of her cage. She gets very vocal at this, snarling and growling and a little snappy.
Should we stay in the time out zone with her or leave her a few seconds in a safe place by herself?
Thanks

A great piece of advise someone gave me years ago: "Ignore the unwanted behaviour, interrupt the behaviour that cannot be ignored".
When Toots was younger and did mad stuff like trying to swing off the curtains, I would grab a toy and call her in an excited voice,, she would then stop the curtain thing and rush to me and the toy where we would then have a good game. Luckily at that age they are very easily distracted.
If she starts the snappy thing, always have a toy ready.
This phase does pass ,we all go through it!  Laughing Laughing

We try loads of different things to try and redirect her attention, and we know it's just puppy hood so we're not worried that we have a nutter on our hands! Smile
The time out method is something we've talked about for when she really goes on one! But how do we do this correctly is the info we're after if anyone can help.
Thanks

How do you implement a time out space without using the crate as punishment? Do you lock in a room briefly? We are still working on STAY with her >.> And she tends to get more snappy at us than at the toys around 8, no running around though, she doesn't even like going far on walks lol!

We have a small room which I puppy proofed and it's where we feed her. We try to put her in there for about 20 seconds and try to open the door before she starts crying or scratching at the door. Sometimes she just has a drink as soon as she goes in and calms down a little.
We're not worried about the acting up we just don't know if that's the right way to do it.
Theia is like Karma, not only in looks, in that it seems to be around 8 or 9 pm when she starts. Lynn seems to think it's like when kids play up, fighting sleep. But I don't know about that as we don't own any kids!
Lynn is taking her to puppy socialisation on Saturday and Sunday so maybe she'll learn some manners!

So lucky, we're taking Karma on next Sunday (when the next round of classes start)! Theia and her are kind of twins in a way Tongues I would agree with Lynn on them trying to fight sleep, oftentimes when she gets like that, we'll crate just before we start getting ready for bed, she's usually out in a few minutes. They definitely do have a lot of behaviors similar to human children. Smile
