Thanks folks. This was a charity competition run by the Dogs Trust. To be honest, if they hadnt selected a staffie (staffx) in the most handsome male category, they may as well pack up and go home - considering the huge abandoned staffie problem (in the UK). It was quite difficult to keep Douglas steady among all the leaping hounds in close proximity, but plenty of the other owners also looked like they were trying hard as well. Douglas sometimes is a little grumpy with other dogs (esp males, esp larger dogs, esp anything that lunges at him, esp anything that he takes a dislike to) so it was important that there would be no incidents in our corner of the ring - wedged between a labradoodle and a full standard poodle. Everything was fine. After the rosette was awarded, we did two laps of victory round the entire Meadows (large grassy area, centre of Edinburgh) for everyone to see and admire - and they did. Masses of other dogs there, which in their ones and twos normally can cause Douglas to crouch and freeze (unless distracted - we're working on 'watch'). However, there were so many dogs that his reaction diminished so, all in all, it was very good practice for him to walk by in a controlled environment. Needless to say, he spent the entire evening seriously zonked (as shown). A pink rosette was ideal and, since his schlong is practically the largest ever seen throughout the entire Kingdom of Dog (tastefully disguised here by draped paw), bringing out his feminine side is very acceptable.
