Hi everyone.

New to this forum, we have a 3 year old staffie called max. Today i noticed that the pads on his paws have turned yellow round the edges and look dry, he isnt in any pain but he does like to lick his paws alot. He lets you touch them and what ever it is doesnt seem to be bothering him his pads feel smooth they dont smell either.

I was jus wondering if any ones had this problem before.

Thanks in advance

Hi there, it's not something I've come across. As long as they are clean and not sore or infected I would just keep an eye on it. If your worried pop him to the vets to be sure.

When you have a min, pop along here and say Hi :-

If you are conserned that your dog may be in pain from this then seek advice from your vet.

This product will prevent damage to the dogs feet and provide grip should he need it:

You could try rubbing some coconut oil on them, it's good for dry skin  Smile

As above. Staffies have a notoriously high pain threshold, so if you're worried pop to the vet for an informed opinion.

it may be thickening of the pads due to alot of walking on hard surfaces (concrete, tarmac etc), reaction to floor cleaning chemicals, yeast infection (check around nails as this is where it usually starts), zinc deficiancy or hyperkeratosis of the foot. if you can rule out  the first two suggestions then a trip to the vet would be advisable. otherwise moisturise the pads for a few days be it with coconut oil or baby moisturiser (unperfumed) and see if there are any changes.
