hi all im new on here but would really appreciate some advice of someone people please .

I have staffys they are both 2 , both are really loving and brought up well around people children etc . my problem is one of them is very nervous and really doesnt like strange noises , by noises i mean the door ,other dog squeals ,loud banging,(doors slamming ) children screaming . he has never shown aggression he just shakes and looks for myself or my husband who rarely leave the house because of having 2 disabled children .

when we go out he does have the place up but the problem is we went to a funeral the otherday and asked my friend to come over and look after the children , everything was going well until there was a person banging the door .one of the dogs tried to get out of the crate and got his mouth stuck and was squealing , the other dog went straight through his crate and everything went mad and were fighting eachother . my friend rang me so returned 3 mins after to find a man off my street trying to hit my dogs with a mop and also my biggest of the dogs trying to attack him . when asked my friend what the man was doing he said the man came to help and went in house with the mop to begin with and tried to hit them not look at the situation first . i just need advice as my dog is very nervous anyway like i mentioned ,i just need to know if you think the dog was scared thats why its tried to attack him ,like ive said dog has never shown aggression before that as hes a baby loves everyone . i rang rspca for advice and they said it  sounds like protection aggression . ever since it happened he is still loving . please any advice would be brilliant xxxxxxx

Sounds very much like protection aggression. I should think he was very scared also so this was probably a very natural reaction.

Hopefully someone with more experience will be along later to offer you advice on how you can manage this better.

it does sound like he was scared and that was why he attacked, may be you could work on his nervous behaviour, ask at your vets if they know any one that can help you with it  Smile

You are right to not give him up,think how we would react if some stranger entered our home waving a mop around. Poor baby was just defending himself.

thank you for the comment , I would'nt give him up he's my baby . He's a very nervous dog anyway , so think person with a mop just caused the aggression that day .
