ear question Empty ear question

Post by Barry S Fri May 16 2014, 17:41

Thank you for looking... I noticed my girl shaking her head so had a look in her ears, in one ear there is quite a bit of crusty deposit and it may be swollen. I have her booked in the vets on monday for something else so can get her looked at then but wanted to know if I can do anything in the mean time ?
The deposits are dark rust in color and it is slightly tender, she was also coughing yesterday if that helps
Thanks again
Barry

Awww ouch yes it sounds like an ear infection to me too, if she will let you near the ear try to give it a gentle wipe with some damp cotton wool just to keep it clean in the mean time, again if she will let you try a tiny smear of olive oil on the ear this will help to soothe it a little.

could be ear mites vets best place but u can get drops from pets at home for about £3 that if u use correctly work really well chester seems prone to them so i use johnson ear drops and clean his ears with tissues (he love the attention 2) if u take your dog in there should be be someone that can help! my dogs cough and splutter alot this time of year could be allergies and watch what they sniff on country walks near farmers fields!

Yep Vin has had quite a few ear infections, need some anti biotic drops from vets. But yes a little olive oil or just gently wipe with cotton wool and warm water. I use an ear cleaner from the vets now and that seems to keep them at bay x

Yes I use ear cleaner from the vets now and go for antibiotic drop if we get a flair up. As suggested you can try and clean them x

Good luck with soothing her ears Smile We have some ear cleaner on hand just in case of ear infections! Always good to keep!

i know easy to miss until they start shaking head! dog training we did health check every week but i admit i dont do every week now we dont go its easily forgotten! but since my 2 have had ear issues i do "the dip" test every weekish i just put tip of finger in ear and if clean they r good to go (i dont go poking around) but a clean out with a tissue never does any harm and chester loves it! hope u get some relief over weekend

I put some olive oil in her ear this morning masarged it in and left it a couple of hours then cleaned her ear, it all looks much better, there is a slight smell, but the clean seems to have eased her irritation, I will do it again later.
Thank you all again for your help and concearn.
